Well I'm not from Amsterdam myself but I do know that paddo's are forbidden to seell in A'dam althjough they don"t know yet who must check this. They are lots of rooms where hookers were to expose themselves bought by the city to become ateliers now and we have a non- smoking policy now in Holland, even in the coffeshops. The city also closed some famous sexshops in order to create a new kinda atmosphere in Amsterdam. But I don't know how this all is in real life cause I don't live there. But we have some members from A'dam so they could tell if it's really that harsh I tell ya.... <_< |

Natives like me usually avoid the red light district like the plague anyway (bless the Spuistraat hookers!), but I can imagine it's a striking blow for tourists and white slave traders alike. Oh well, thankfully they haven't cracked down on the muggers down there, it's part of the Amsterdam-experience |

As that "non smoking law" is part of Dutch tobacco legislation, it shouldn't affect non tobacco smoking potheads like me ![]() Some coffeshops reckon that once you mix the tobacco with cannabis in a joint, that joint has become a "cannabis-product" instead of a cigarette, thus putting it under "cannabis-legislation" instead of "tobacco legislation", therefor if they get sued for breaking the "smoking law" they will get into a long hard battle on jurisdiction and interpretation of legislation before they ever get prosecuted on breaking the smoking ban I LOVE my country  |

Hmm, I must be the only one on this forum who doesn't like pot. It only makes me tired/cranky/paranoid, so I avoid it unless i'm really drunk and somebody's offering... not fair, why is everybody having fun except me? ![]() Member X: He sure is!

Alcohol and marihuana is a real bad combination if you're not a hardcore smoker so the effects it has then don't surprise me @WOOF; heard about these fines <_< In my favorite shop they used to tolerate only pure joints since the ban, these days you can mix it with tobacco without any trouble there... Smoking a cigarette is still forbidden there, though... Since our Christian-right government comes down hard on hobby-growers crimelords have taken over, quality has gone downhill and prices have gone up. If they'd have to repay the costs for every joint they rip open just to check if some hardcore criminal didn't put the deadly killer-drug tobacco in it, they wouldn't bother to check no more I guess... It started when coffeshops had to fit in with regulations and had to become "horeca" businesses... All the nice places dissapeared. Then they had to chose between "dry" or "wet" horeca, meaning that if they sold marihuana (dry) they were forbidden to sell alcohol (wet) as well (also because of troubles with tourists who got drunk and then decided to smoke but weren't used to our Dutch high grade and ended up sick and paranoid on the first aid department of the hospitals). Have allways said that when the government had driven all coffeshops within the horeca camp, they'd ban smoking from the horeca, just to crack down on coffeshops and indeed they did <_< One thing they have achieved, our youth don't bother with marihuana these days, ghb, speed, lsd and xtc are much cheaper and allmost as popular and common as "coma-drinking" Myself I only go to a coffeeshop to look up some old friends and get a cuppa coffee... |

I don't smoke but now and then I like a hash pipe. Gives a real nice smooth feeling. That can be combined with a few beers. At least depends on which hash you smoke Have had a pipe on a sunday that really started me off like a rocket In our hometown which is ruled by ultra Christian Democrates  has never been a coffeshop. There has always been individuals to try and start off something but it was always surpressed by the city councillers. Strange how Holland can be so tolerant but yet narrow minded. |

That's really interesting. I don't understand the stand on tobacco, but I guess that's the first step before they start eliminating the coffee shops. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the true intent. Can you smoke a cigarette while walking the streets in A'dam? The first time I saw mixing tobacco and marijuana was when I was in Costa Rica, hanging out with some Danes. They took a cigarette, and slowly turned it while moving a flame back and fourth. They called it "roasting the tobacco." They then rolled the paper first, mixed the roasted tobacco and marijuana, and stuffed the bugle-shaped paper full of the mixture. It wasn't too bad to be honest, but still way more trouble than I like to go through. Just gimmie some scissors, paper and the sticky stuff and I'll be happy in about 30 seconds. I did hear that the hash was all that Denmark has, really. I tried it once. It just reminded me of smoking opates. Just got me kinda relaxed. Thanks for the info, though. Sounds like Holland is trying to clean that place up a bit. Hopefully they won't take it too far before we make it out there... |

...that'll be about the only public place you can smoke... Nowadays there's lots of smoking people outside bars, with all the trouble that comes from it <_< You can get a fine for smoking a joint and drinking out on the streets nowadays though... Dunno how tough the Amsterdam police is on these laws... One would suppose they have better things to do :ph43r: |
