ESCAPE FROM HELL HOLE

I recently discovered that the Indo flick ESCAPE FROM HELL HOLE (Rapi Films, 1983) is now out on DVD in the UK! The first thing you notice about this release is the truly awful cover that does everything to divert your attention from the fact that this is an Indo movie, haha. Kinda like the old westernised cover for ANGEL (aka Iron Angels) (and countless more). The next thing you notice is the bad picture quality that looks like it's from a video tape (and resembles a 2nd generation copy!). Not good at all! I don't know how they could've got this out on UK DVD!

Here's the much better Danish cover:

At least is this UK DVD uncut?

I haven't compared the two versions but I would be surprised if it were cut. As far as I remember there isn't any gore or anything in it that would have to be cut in the UK nowadays. When a film like the French INSIDE can get a fully uncut DVD release in the UK I doubt HELL HOLE would be cut (unless the distributor uses a cut print by mistake).

Is INSIDE released in the UK? I must have missed that one.

As for Hell Hole, it's from the notorious "Jef" films. So expect the worst. I very much doubt this has been licensed from the rights holders.

Oops, sorry! I bought a batch of dvd's from the UK and just (mistakenly) remembered it as being one of those. It's the US dvd I've got.

Yeah, that Indo dvd does look suspicious. I just didn't think this could happen with UK releases since the UK doesn't have the more lenient PD policies that we're familiar with in regards to US releases.

Yes, it's interesting. Until a few years ago there were very few of these "PD" releases in the UK. Now there's loads. I think it's just that people are banking on the rights owners not finding out (or not being bothered). The real issue is that they are usually put out by fast buck merchants who just dupe an old VHS, so the buyers are getting shortchanged along with the legitimate rights owners.
