It's horribly cropped.
There is no debate about it.

1.78:1 is not "about right". The film is in 1.85 on the Anchor Bay DVD.

Get both versions for yourself and check out how much is cropped.
I also have a film print of this movie which I've sourced my DVD from and it is not missing the picture info the AB dvd is missing.

This is another example of a film being released "widescreen" when it should not have been.

The picture image is 1.78:1. I measured it myself and you can too, with these screen captures:

And the framing looks absolutely fine. I watched parts of the film yesterday and didn't notice any scene that spoke "too tight framing," and I'm someone who is acutely aware of these things, as I myself have complaints about tight-framing on, say, several Hammer films that have been released on DVD. One could give this presentation a sliver more with a 1.66:1 framing, but a full-aperture framing would be all wrong for a theatrical presentation. To state that the AB framing is "horribly cropped"--well, you'd have to provide examples of where vital information is left out of the frame. I didn't see any such example. Everything seemed well-balanced in composition.

BTW, in the captures above, you can see that Hayden's nude scene does reveal her bush, excepting when she's advanced far enough toward the reverend, so that it becomes hidden by the podium in the forefront. In that scene, there's a medium shot of Hayden in the nude where you just might see the top of her bush in a full aperture presentation. But that would be the only instance in that scene where some hairs would be cut off, but on purpose, as I'd be certain this was the intention of the director and DP, who framed this film for at least a 1.66:1 presentation. Of course, any screen capture of this shot with full bush would be welcome here. Anyone?

PS:

Here is a screen capture of the shot I'm referring to.

I can respect your opinion and I gave you mine.
So I will agree to disagree about the framing is proper on the AB dvd.

My personal preference is to see all of the picture info.
