Odeon, which released three Tod Slaughter movies some years ago ("Maria Marten, or the Murder in the Red Barn" / "Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street", and "Crimes at the Dark House") in their "Best of British" series, is now releasing a new set of three other titles. For a ridiculous price, you get two dics. The first one contains "The Face at the Window", totally restored. It's by far the best-looking version of this masterpiece that I have seen, and I have seen a lot. Not a single defect in the entire movie, the soundtrack is incredibly clear for a movie shot in 1939, and the image is splendid. The second disc contains "The Crimes of Stephen Hawke" and "It's Never Too Late to Mend". The first one is made from an excellent print and - here again - is probably the best DVD version of this movie. "It's Never Too Late to Mend" is apparently unavailable in 35mm. All the showings on British television since 25 years were made in a 16mm print, with notable hisses in the soundtrack. However, even with this little defect, it's by far the best lloking version. So - three movies starring the incredible Mr. Slaughter in the best of his villainy - you simply can't live without this splendid DVD release.

Now there's a classic!! Jean-Claude, we don't hear from you for well over 10 months. Everyone you're in touch with is worried, and then you just come back and make a post. Without any word on where you've been or anything. Haha. Check this: http://z9.invisionfree.com/THE_CINEHOUND_F...?showtopic=2946 There's also another thread called; "Where is JC. " but I can't find it now. Oh well, at least you didn't move on to the big cinema in the sky. |
