Yeah, that's always a gamble. Buying tapes when you only see the box in an advert. Of Hell Riders I had, prior to this one popping up, only seen the other Empire sleeve variant. |

I would like to get verification of whether the Empire tapes called bootlegs ARE indeed bootlegs? Perhaps these ones are. But i have seend 3 or 4 different DELIRIUM tapes with the Empire sleeve and i am not convinced they are bootlegs anymore than i am convinced that they are re-releases. The original Empire release of DELIRIUM, for instance, had a green and orange typeset on the label. But i have seen a tape with 'BestSellers' on the label and nothing else and i have seen quite a few that were a plain white label with the title 'Delirium' on it and 'Kleur' but nothing else (no Empire logo). The latter is one that i have seen many for and i own one of these and the quality is excellent. So, either Empire went bust and someone bought up the stock of sleeves and video masters and started duplicating on the cheap...or someone managed to come across a batch of the sleeves and somehow bootlegged perfect quality tapes with cheap labels....? It is a sticky one for me. I find it hard to come up with a good enough argument for either case. But i feel the idea that Empire went under and someone bought up the remaining stock in a liquidation sale and just hammered out what they could as being most likely. Any opinions on this one? |

I'm sure that verification would be nice, and it's a nice theory, but most will not buy it. I have checked the other 5 Empires I have, which are the real thing. 4 of them have both top and spine Empire labels. 1 has only the Empire spine label. For me it's simple: The tape needs at least one genuine Empire label on it. Then there is also the weight of the tape stock, which is a good indication. So, the 2 I just featured are bootlegs, or re issues, which makes no difference to me. They're inferior. Same as with the Delirium tapes that you described. I bet Rene made plenty of those. By the way, pic quality of my 2 bootlegs is very good too. And check the rounded edges of that Scavengers sleeve. But the real thing? I think not. |

Thanks for your input. I hope we can get some other opinions also with everyone checking their Empire releases. I am curious about the re-release versions. Either they lost interest in the releases but still had sleeve stock and tapes laying around or they went bust and someone picked up the remaining stock or someone managed to access the Empire master tape and reproduce the sleeves in high grade quality and bootleg them. Would be nice to see some further opinions as well as some pics of sleeve thickness, variant labels/stickers, etc. too... |
