Gents,

I am reluctantly, and with a heavy heart starting this thread as I would like to kick-start a discussion about what I think is a serious decline in morale and manners regarding buyers in the world of video collecting.

In January this year I have decided to sell my Giallo collection – this decision has not been taken easy as it has taken me the best part of 15 years to build it. Many buyers from around the world have found superb one-of-a-kind pieces and many treasured tapes have gone to good homes.

The sale was based on ongoing job insecurities and my drive to provide a secure home for my family, in times of uncertainty and huge expenses. Most buyers have been nothing but pleasant, straightforward and honest. True gents and men of their words – a pleasure to deal with.

Now, as the sale should move to a close several issues are emerging, many around buyers not honouring commitments or agreed payment plans. Almost all these issues are based around larger deals that stretch over many months to close.

Some examples:

A deal with a buyer was agreed in January – condition was a larger first payment, then followed by several monthly payments which should have brought the deal to closure at around end of year. So far the down payment has been received, followed by one instalment only – About 30% of the deal is closed and I am getting concerned about the remaining instalments.

Another example:

Another buyer (so far very consistent and trustworthy) agreed to buy a larger amount of tapes in February. On my last trip to Germany I boxed the tapes and prepared the parcel for shipping. I removed the tapes from my sales list so they have been off the market for 7 months. Now the buyer refers to a change in personal circumstances and a change in approach to collecting which would lead to either a.) Smaller payments over a longer period of time which is perfectly acceptable for me or b.) A significant reduction of the deal or c.) Complete cancellation of the deal or d.) a combination of the above. All options b to d will make my life very difficult as my financial planning get’s thrown out of sync, I have to unpack/repack the tapes next time I am in Germany and start selling them again – after having removed them from the market for 7 months.

I have always been agreeable to special arrangements and have been patient when buyers had problems with payments (as another member here can certainly agree to) – I have looked the other way when buyers placed bids for tapes left, right and centre while owing me money but I am getting to a stage where those issues start to frustrate and upset me at a personal level.

How do you think these situations should be approached? Bear it and grin? Name and shame the offenders?

Do you think buyers can no longer trusted to honour their promises and commitments?

Your Input would be very much appreciated!

Reminds me of my dope-dealing days, LOL

You should invade their homes at a least expected moment and grab their playstations as pawn, used to do the trick for me! :hi:

Mike, I moved this thread to the Sales room as it belongs here B)

As soon as you didn't send any tapes to them there is no robbery then. Of course a man must keep his word, OK, but many people out there lost their jobs recently or have other money problems. This is not your fault but...

As about posting names...I don't think you could earn something here. I mean they can apologise and that's it. There is no crime or fraud here but just broken promises.

However you can do as you like :D

In fact I also wanna buy a lot of your stuff but I knew I had tons of financial problems lately. so I didn't.

I mean people must think more carefully when they give promises about financial plans etc...

Another good idea is the people themselves reply here and explain what happened

But I do not think it is fair to push your financial problems on to the seller. Especially if the buyers have huge tape collections, of which they can sell parts to meet their commitments.

I think naming and shaming might be a good thing so future buyers and sellers understand those individuals cannot be trusted to keep their word...

Yes, I understand...

You can post names and details if you like...But a good idea is to try hard to make updated arrangements.

I know these broken deals destroyed your plans.

Couldn't you bring the tapes home and sell them more easy?

I already sold those tapes and I would expect the buyer to be a man of his word.
