I have a modest video collection of italian made ww2 movies ..... I only buy english friendly tapes.

a few movies I like are:
- salt in the wounds
- churchills leapards
the 2 are available on a double dvd from wild east, excelent quality

- red roses for the fuhrer .... only know a fandub that is english and widescreen
- 5 for hell is a fun action movie ... same directer that did the sartana movies
- commando's with lee van cleef
- possibility zero with henry silva spy/ww2 movie
- the heroes from duccio tessari, adventure war movie - interesting cast
- inglorious bastards from enzo g castellari
- corbari , drama/war

these are some oke movies too watch, but dont expect too much of them!

I actually just watched Salt in the Wounds (FIx tape, nice WS-print) and I didn't like it very much... From your list I have also seen Possibility Zero that was even worse. And I'm not a big fan of Inglorious Bastards either... Maybe the Italian war films are not for me...

My alltime favorite war film is the 1985 Idi i smotri (aka Come and See) by Elem Klimov.

Or maybe you just don't watch the RIGHT Italian war movies! :P

Stop watching those World War II films and get hold of some wild and crazy Vietnam War movies instead!!! Some of those Italian-Filipino co-productions are very entertaining. Check Antonio Margheriti's trilogy THE LAST HUNTER, TIGER JOE and TORNADO. And also check Joe D'Amato's TOUGH TO KILL (altho not a Vietnam War movie but some African war I think).

The Last Hunter:

Tiger Joe trailer:

Tough to Kill trailer:

Thanks to Diabolik for uploading all three trailers!!!
Not surprisingly, they're from Danish vhs.

I like very much ALL Antonio Margheriti's and Bruno Mattei's war movies of the 80s:

Antonio Margheriti:

-The last hunter
-Tornado/The last blood
-Codename Wildgeese
-Commando Leopard
-The commander

Bruno Mattei:

-Stike commando/Kobra commando
-Stike commando 2/Trappola diabolica
-Double target
-Born to fight

as well as some scattered Ferdinando Baldi's and Pier Luigi Ciriaci's efforts:

-Warbus
-Delta force commando 1 & 2
-Soldier of fortune
-Afghanistan the last warbus
-Rolf (Mario Siciliano)
-Cobra Mission (Fabrizio De Angelis)

While as for "classic" WWII movies I suggest:

-Kill Rommel! (Alfonso Brescia)
-Salt in the wound (Tonino Ricci)
-Operation over run (Mario Siciliano)
-The seven red berets (Mario Siciliano)
-Dirty heroes (Alberto De Martino)
-Battle of the desrt (Mino Loy and Luciano Martino)
-La cattura (Paolo Cavara), a sort of "authorial" war movie
-Gott mit Uns (Giuliano Montaldo) with Bud Spencer.
-La lunga ombra del lupo (Gianni Manera)...directed and starring Gianni Manera. An unusual WWII movie seen from the "fascist" point of view
-Though to kill (Joe d'Amato)

some particular titles:

-Many wars ago (Francesco Rosi). The best movie about WWI
-Un giorno da leoni/A day for lionhearts (Nanni Loy)...one of my favourites ever.
-Dreams die at dawn (Written and directed by the great Indro Montanelli: it's set during the hungarian revolution of 1956
-Italiani brava gente (Giuseppe De Santis), an "authorial" war movie
-The battle of Algiers (Gillo Pontecorvo): a total must-see!!!
-The beast in heat (Luigi Batzella): terrible overrated shit if considered as a nazixploitation, but quite good as a war movie

While I feel quite boring those war movies directed by Umberto Lenzi, Enzo G. Castellari (though "nglorious bastards" is ok, nothing special but ok) and the Ferdinando De Leo's one war movie only...

Big thanks for jnfernal for the "particular titles" list... Some very interesting looking titles on it.

In Dutch, but perhaps useful.
