I'm starting to get to know the genre a bit better, but as i'm not the greatest horror freak around these parts, i'm wondering what the hidden gems are. Which titles should not be missed next to Halloween, friday the 13th and other big names????

I'm starting to like the "eighties-ness" about it :)

Some very good tips there. I already had Black Christmas on my Christmas viewing list, My Bloody Valentine i saw a few years back, but never heard of Blood Rage before and there are some new titles for me in your runner up section aswell. Thanks a bunch!

I had expected a few more enthusiastic replys by now. Horror CK and Videohunter I asume to be experts in the genre...?
But I've got enough to chew on for a while now ;)

I've enjoyed 'The House on Sorority Row'. If you are looking for that eighties vibe 'Terror Train' is okay.
And another one that comes to mind is 'Naked Massacre'...it's pretty grim (no real eighties vibe though)...

I'm tempted by that Terror Train
especially with Vanity on the cover, didn't see her mentioned on any other posters or in the trailer...
But I won't steal away that tape from you OCP. At this point slashers are for me just something to check out, not to collect seriously

This week I've watched Prom Night and Slaughter High, both a bit by the numbers and dissapointing actually :( Slaughter High could have been an excellent parody if it was actually funny... maybe it's the kind of movie you can enjoy ripping apart with a group of people... watching it solo it just fell flat for me. Prom Night was just predictable and not very exciting, though Jamie Lee Curtis is a groovy disco dancer.
