Today I went to visit an old friend of mine - a 92 years old funny kalimantanese man running a vcd shop - and he showed me a movie from his personal collection It's "Si Gondrong" (1971)...he told me it was printed in 1992 or 1993 (the year he bought it) and I've never seen anything compared to it before: ![]() ![]() It's a 2-disc set - which is strange for a DVD - and on the cover it's written both VCD and DVD It was printed by Five Star Audio & Video and distributed by Dragon AV...as I said, it was printed around 1992/1993 and the code is 031-IA-009 He told me there were more titles like that printed by the same company. Unfortunately Dragon AV/Dragon jester ceased activity a few months ago and the boss - a friend of mine - seems disappeared do you know more titles of this serie? If this is a DVD, it would be the first time I hear that some old indonesian movies were printed on DVD, except a few ones (Manusia 6.000.000 dolar) printed in Indonesia and available on the indonesian film centre website |

One of the discs could be a VCD, and the other a DVD - like in some box sets with both DVD and BluRay, no ? And it's not rare to have movies edited in two DVDs, even in separate cases: almost all of the Cambodian DVDs are made this way. Don't ask me why. An example of Cambodian movie on DVD in two parts and cases: ![]() |

mah, I don't think it's a DVD+VCD combo...this kind of packaging just emerged in the very recent years. I guess it's a real 2-DVD set...they just converted each VCD disc onto a DVD and that's it....at least that's what I think But I wonder how many other titles on this serie appeared....as you know there aren't any old indonesian movies printed on DVD both in Indonesia and Malaysia except for a few comedy with S. Bagio (if I remember correctly) and the "Manusia 6.000.000 dolar"....and you can find them all for sale at the indonesianfilmcentre.com webstore...when i went to Jakarta, I found nothihg more and - in any case - no trace of action/fantasy/horror movies on dvd. they never got a dvd edition. so this is the first case - to me - to see an old action indonesian movie printed on dvd. it's the first time ever i see something like this....to my knowledge, the only dvd edition of old indonesian movies are the ones on Mondo Macabro only. In Malaysia there isn't even a single indonesian old movie printed in DVD except for "Pontianak" (1975) which actually was a co-production with Malaysia I am curious to know. The only thing I know is that it was printed in 1992 or 1993 because the owenr of the VCD shop - which is a nice man, good friend and really one of the coolest guy (well, ok he's 92 y.o.... :D) I ever met here said he bought it in 1993. It's made by Dragon AV, later Dragon Jester Entertainment....but I can't find the boss anymore, Mr. Harrison Liew, he seems disappeared because the office is closed, the shop is shut down and nobody knows what happened. He probably went out of business... If I can find him, I can ask more information There are at least 9 or 31 DVD made in that serie, according to the catalogue number.....I tried to make some research and I came across nothing. Not even a single sentence referring to this kind of products Ah, I know that cambodian DVD....I saw it in a couple of shops in Phnom Penh...there are others, like - if I am not wrong - the new version of "My mother is Arb" and other....but I never bought them, too new for my tastes...but, yes, there are a lot of similar titles, mainly horror or fantasy in the same line, overthere... |
