NeckBoPhiliac-An Irresistible Attraction To Bo's Neck

I just read this

"Kellie Pickler will be touring with country music performer, Brad Paisley starting April 27."

My friend went to see Brad Paisley here and Carrie Underwood opened for him...which OK that's understandable...she was the AI4 winner.

Someone remind me when Kellie was booted again?? All I remember is that it wasn't soon enough for me. And she is gonna be OPENING for Brad Paisley now??? Is she that popular in the country world? More than likely, Paisley plays semi big-big venues so Kellie will get alot of exposure.

What does this have to do with Bo you ask? Think about it...

Bo came in 2nd and he didn't TOUR with any "big names" Just imagine if he would have...he could've reached soooo many more potential fans. But this Kellie chic came in 5th or 6th (I'm guessing) on AI and she gets this gig...What the HELL is up with that BS?? This is the kinda shit that pisses me off with AI or whoever the fuck ends up managing the AI top contestants and their careers  You would think any season's winner, 2nd place and hell even 3rd place contestant of AI would have better opportunities than someone who didn't even get to top 3.

Rant Over...Thanks for listening  ;)

I thought the same thing Jenn. Bo should have been opening for big name bands, not a no name bands opening up for him. I think we should be his managers. LOL!

Country music is a whole different animal. Carrie and Kelli's CD is exactly what all their fans and the record industry was expecting out of them. Bo's was certainly NOT. Carrie and Kelli have been embraced with open arms. It's different in the 'rock' or 'pop' industry. You don't have to be 'cool' in country (or, the definition of 'cool' is different). The guy who captured the heart of millions by singing 'Whipping Post' suddenly crooning 'The Real Thing' is not cool. We, his hardcore fans, think he should open for anyone he wants but the record-buying public and the record industry think he sold out.

I'm really anxious for his 2nd CD to come out. If it's TRT part 2, he's in big trouble. Hello, 3-year career.....hello ONE-year career. It sucks, but it's true, IMO.

Not sure if I'm expressing myself very well here! LOL!

I tell ya what really pisses ME off. Chris Daughtry's new single all over the fucking radio, even here in Ontario, and all the articles saying how he wrote or co-wrote mostly all the songs on the disc. My GOD, that makes me mad! :banghead Chris Daughtry would be NOWHERE without Bo Bice paving the way for him. Chris Daughtry isn't fit to carry Bo's guitar case. There, I've said it. To me, the success of Daughtry is what Bo should've had if Uncle Clive had left him alone to make the CD he wanted. Chris got the help on his originals that Bo should've had.

Cindy you are so right. The same though applies to Chris as Carrie and Kellie. Chris fits right into todays modern alt rock. The kids are going to buy his CD because it is current. In order for him to even be played on radio he had to have writing credit on his songs. That is just the way it is and I hate it. It will be interesting to see what direction they take Bo on CD #2.

Eh, I guess I've just gotten more easy going lately. None of the AI people are even on my radar anymore, so their successes or failures just don't bother me much. See, I see Bo NOT as an AI runner up anymore, but just as another artist among all the talented artists out there. Half the time (until I see a pic or watch a vid) I almost forget that he was on AI because he's gone SO far past that for me. To me, I put Bo in the league of some of the people he played/toured with last year. He did how many kiss concerts with the BIG names in pop last year? He toured ON HIS OWN with Saving Jane as his opening act for half the tour last year. SJ has radio hits, is a KNOWN band and is very popular. Dude did Decades of Rock with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams, Jr, and Three Door Down. Not to damned shabby if you ask me...

Now, that's not saying I don't think Bo opening for a big act wouldn't be a good thing. I just want to point out that the man is not doing to damned bad for a guy living in a 1970's house (and let's face it, it wasn't even remotely as nice as his house is now), working in a guitar store two years ago, and giving guitar lessons for extra income.

A Bo Fan Forever
Cindy I COMPLETELY agree with everything you stated. I also have my own opinion when it comes to Bo.
Now don't hit me :fight with anything but I don't see Bo in a pure "Rock" light. I certainly don't see him as Pop so if the next CD is TRT Part 2, yes, he is gonna be in big trouble. He can sing any kind of music his little heart desires. We have seen him do it all and do it very well.

But I see him more in a Southern Rock light and Southern Rock is very very close to country. Van Zandt is doing very well in country. They play Skynyrd and Allman Bors. all the time just to mention a couple. I think the country fans would embrace Bo and push him futher up than he already is. WWT and VOA would be extremely well received by country fans.

I happen to like country music (along with other genras) and Bo in that genra would be a little like a Travis Tritt. I think he COULD team up with the big dogs in that genra and be even more successful than he already is. I would love to see him under a Nashville label. I think they promote better and support better than the producers in NYC.

Bo was treated so unfairly by RCA simply BECAUSE he was on AI that I don't think I can ever separate the two and not compare his treatment to other AI alums. And the public will never forget he was on 'that show'. Even Jennifer Hudson, who's getting ready to win an Oscar (you KNOW she will) still gets referred to as a former AI contestant.

My feelings about Chris are very uncomfortable for me, though, because I was a HUGE fan of his. I do still like the music, I curse myself because I really do like the new single, but DAMNIT.....Bo was SO screwed, and Chris's success just makes that more vivid for me.

As for Bo going country, he could've done that right off the bat, but I'm not so sure now. I think it's too late. I imagine most country fans wondering what the hell he was doing on CMT for the 'In the Moment' special last Jan.....Bo is not seen as country by the general public, so that would take a lot of marketing to get over.

How on EARTH did they treat Bo unfairly? They gave him the best writers and producers in the industry and while they did force him to make a pop CD, I don't see what they did for him promotion wise as unfair. I think they supported him monetarily as much as they could without COSTING BO a shitload of money. (promotion isn't free for the artist on any label, btw) I think they had a choice to make with Bo, go pop and hope for some success or go rock and know that he would be ridiculed and reviled by rock fans because honestly, though they referred to him as the "rocker" on AI, he's SO not a rocker and wouldn't fit there any better than he did in Pop. At least with pop, RC and Bo had a chance to make something happen.

Would I love to see country embrace Bo? Oh hell yeah, and I think 100% that country WILL embrace him if he strikes a cord with them. If he puts out RELEVANT music to the genre, I think he'll do really well. It's never too late...

No, the public won't ever forget he was on AI, but he can earn their respect so that it won't matter.

And can I just say that I'm really enjoying this thread a lot? The discussion is getting very interesting. :) And how odd that I'm the one with no angst? :lol

They wouldn't even listen to his original music. We saw that on the special. Bo had to work to prove that he was a REAL artist before they'd even deign to listen to anything he'd written with an open mind. Why did they do that? Because he was on AI. I think that's unfair. And his management? Not sure if RCA is responsible for that, but his management thus far has completely sucked. When you can't even buy the CD at the shows, something is wrong there. They could've mined gold with us re: merchandising and didn't take advantage of that at all. Bo is not at fault totally for all that....he's new to even this kind of modest success, someone should've been guiding him. I saw very little evidence of that.

I'd kinda cringe at Bo going country. I'd think a lot of people would treat it as a 'can't succeed in one genre so he's switching' type thing.

Wow... You ladies make lots of good points from both points of view.... I must say, though...I am grateful to AI to bringing Bo to us, but I definitely don't assoviate Bo with AI, although he did help them oput as much as they helped him out....

Honestly... Bo was the only reason why I watched AI... I never watched before or after... Still, it is great that he was able to open the eyes of the AI producers and pave the way for different kinds of music... I am sure this won AI more popularity du to a more varied viewership.

I, for one, can appreciate country music, but I don'ty own a single country CD. Bo is the kind of talented artist who cannot be pigeon-holed. I mean.... check out the varianc between the music Bo performed with Purge and the songs he wrote on Recipe for Flavor.... I love them both, but they are distinctively different. This man grew up listening to Jim Croce and Metallica... he hangs out with Keith Urban AND Scott Ian..... how do you catagorize THOSE influences?

I just want Bo to be Bo and release music he is proud of. I know we will all keep listening. I think Bo would get more radio play with his own originals becasue there is a gapping hole in music that needs to be filled with heart-felt, talented originality.

I think it's great that Bo was able to headline and got to play with Skynard, but opening up for a really big act would definitely be a great move. However.... who could th label possibly pair him with? Maybe the Allman Brothers, who ar touring, but I don't think they hit the road with an opning act. Plus, all of Bo's health issues might have precluded something of that nature.

All I know is that I don't want to see Bo reduced to a "special guest" or a presenter. His talented needs to be recognized. I think he can achiv this simply by being Bo, releasing his own music and touring heavily. I definitely look forward to see what 2007 brings.

OK... Now I MUST gt back to work. :P

I don't keep up with the music world that much, but I have seen where lots of artists have "crossed over" to country. For example, Kid Rock, of all people. It's seen as kind of cool. So I think if Bo crosses over, it will not be viewed as a failure, but rather another opportunity.

Secondly, I just wonder what would have happened if the RCA executives would have let Bo use some of his own material and helped him "tweak" it, as Bo talked with them about in the CMT special. I love VOA and It's My Life, and those are Bo's "tweaked" songs and two of my favorites on TRT cd.

As for Kellie Pickler, I don't ever even think about her. Bo did all right for himself last year, pairing up with Saving Jane and Lynyrd Skynyrd. But I do understand how he would have gotten tremendous exposure if he had been allowed to open for a really big name artist.

I just look forward to this year and I'm anxious to see what happens.

ETA: The one thing that really bugs me is that somehow in this past year Bo has become a joke of sorts in the media. Just read some print articles. It hurts me for him because he's so genuine.

I think they knew what they were dealing with as far as Bo went. What was the point of listening to Bo's music too deeply? His music wouldn't sell in the pop world today. It just won't, much as I love the guy. And he DID sign (I'm sure fully aware) under the POP/ROCK umbrella of RCA, not the country umbrella.

Re: DAUGHTRY! - he's writing relevant stuff. Current stuff about what music is really about - love, sex, and angst. Bo doesn't write about any of that stuff and that's what 90+% of music, in all genres is about. Jamie Houston DID listen to Bo's music in the CMT special, but apparently he either didn't like what he heard or knew (based on his experience) that Bo's music wouldn't cut it. And I have to point out that we don't know everything that went on with RCA, Jamie Houston, Clive Davis, or anyone else. We just saw what we saw. I'm not defending RC or Jamie, but I'm not crucifying them for giving Bo the best they could give him. It hurt like hell to see Bo cut down to size like that, but in retrospect, I totally understand it.

If Bo ever gets his music on a CD, it's gonna have to be tweaked all to hell and back by experienced writers, and I think they just flat out didn't have time for that. I'm not sure it would've happened even if they did, to be honest. Cliff Magness heard something in VOA that he liked, apparently even he didn't take any of Bo's other songs and work on those with him, or get them on the CD.

Everyone seems to keep forgetting that Bo co-wrote on this CD (not just VO, bit IML). A FIRST for a freshman CD from anyone coming off of AI.

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of their angst here, just trying to show the other side of the coin.

His touring management has nothing to do with RCA. RCA is about the production & promotion side (getting airplay, etc) of the music.

Personally, I'm so stoked about the thought of Bo going country that I squeal when I think about it. I can't see him being accepted or fitting in anywhere else. If he doesn't go country, he might as well go home and pack it in. Where else is there? And yes, he's gonna have to really wow people, but I'm pretty confident that he can do that. ;) And I guarantee you most of the people in country ain't even heard of Bo Bice, so they wouldn't even know he switched genres. Hell, hardly anybody I know who listens to pop, rock, OR country even knows who he is. People outside the internet fanbase don't care if he sold out, or if he didn't 'stay true', they just want something good to listen to. It's totally the right time to make the move, IMO.

ETA: Lisa IML isn't a Bo song that was tweaked. As far as I know, it's just a regular old co-write.

Oh I wouldn't mind seeing Bo go country. Hell I think they'd embrace him with open arms in that genre. He's just so diverse. Hell he can sing anything AND DOES! It depends on what your listening as to where you feel he fits in.

Your right Cin, RCA was not prepared to listen to any of Bo's stuff last year. But, I think at that point they had made the decision to go pop and they weren't turning back. Bo's writing to me is his weakness. I truly hope he gets more control over CD#2 as to what goes on it, but I'm willing to bet if it was a CD of nothing but Bo originals, it would be a flop (outside of his die-hard fans anyway). He really needs time to write with some highly talented people. And I really believe that last year, there just wasn't enough time to do that and still get the CD out when they did.

ETA: Sorry! Most of this seems redundant now. I think several of us were posting at the same time :lol
