There's a big difference in *switching* genres and playing one or two cross over hits..... Faith Hill is country but she's had some cross over hits on the Pop charts....but ultimately she's known as a country singer.... same deal with Bon Jovi and Kid Rock....yes they had cross over hits that played on the country stations but they ultimately are Rock performers. I just can't see Bo pegged as Country. I just want Bo to do well with whatever he chooses to do ......

Because it wasn't released to country. Stations don't 'pick up on' stuff anymore. It's all about marketing & promotion. Again, Bo's signed under the rock/pop umbrella at RCA, so they wouldn't promote their 'pop star' to country. Though the CMT special always did stump me... Cin, I'm serious. It was sad. Even the tiny number of people who remembered him from AI didn't know a thing about his CD. Nope, really not worried about his career much. It'll either happen now or it won't, but I think it WILL happen for Bo at some point. I really don't see him as a flash in the pan. He's made too many genuine connections in the business to go "FLOP". And I never said he'd OUTSELL Carrie, just that I see him as a long term artist who will be around writing, making music, and performing for years. Her? Not so much... Kid Rock, The Eagles, Keith Urban, haven't "crossed over". They are actually considered country rock artists. I'll give you Bon Jovi, but I would think being established as a THE rock act of the last two and a half decades would make crossing to country even harder... |

Right when the judges asked Bo what he could bring to the show his infamous line was"Some Rock, Some Blues, Some Soul", Bo is all that. He just has to make the right decision. This topic was awesome Jenn. thanks for staritng it. Love the opinions!! |

Hey, as long as I can go into several lengthy diatribes, I'm good to go. And as long as I can relate it to Bo, cause EVERYTHING in my life relates to Bo in some way. Drives hubby crazy, but lately I find him doing it too. |

OK...it is related to Bo or that's how I took it. The last time he was on Ellen, they were talking about how the first time he was on (right after his elimination) he felt like someone had poked a knife in his stomach. She asked how he felt now...he said he was so over it...he couldn't be better...then went on to say in a smart ass tone... "IMO...if I would've went further..I wouldn't be considered a solid rock artist...I would've been pushed into a pop category" OK he may be right but I took that as a dig at Bo...just in the way he said it...almost bragging. If it weren't for Bo (and Con...I guess :P ) paving the way for "rock types" and had the popularity that they did on AI...IMO, they would've passed on Chris at the auditions. Plus I'm sure alot of people who had voted for Bo were voting for Chris because of the "rocker" connection...hell I was rooting for him in the beginning until it became the S.S.D.D. Chris should be thanking him...not being a cocky ass about it. Carry on with the debate |

When I watched AI last year, I was firmly entrenched in my vow to not vote....and I'm proud to say I didn't (patting self on the back). Even if I had liked someone, I still would not have voted. I was SO disillusioned with the outcome of the previous season...plus....no one came CLOSE to touching me the way Bo did (man, do I wanna be touched by Bo!! ). The mark of a TRUE musician is to be able to perform different genres and apply different nuances to the music. I saw and heard that when Bo performed on the show. Take, for example, Whipping Post ( )....HOLY SHIT! I had never heard that song before, and I was mesmerized when I saw the video of that (didn't see the actual show). With Time in a Bottle, he knew just what to do to reel us in with his understated performance, which the song called for. When he sang Vehicle, I was SO dead! For ME...that's when I FIRST saw his sexual magnetism on the stage, and, in my opinion, when "a star was born." There are so many other instances, but then when he performed In a Dream, that was it...he ran the full gamut of musicianship with THAT performance. Oh, wait....Long Long Road. While some didn't like that song, it brought tears to my eyes. I felt every minute nuance with that performance, and that was even BEFORE anyone knew he had not been feeling well. He was a true musician THROUGHOUT the show, and still continues to be one. Every negative thing that was said to him on the show was taken in stride, and turned into a learning experience. When Chris sang on AI, I only saw him sing his heart out (which every singer does), but for me, it was all one dimensional...one performance...different day (SSDD [tm BogartBabe]). I never saw that Ellen show, Jenn, but, I have to agree with you. If it hadn't been for Bo, Chris wouldn't be where he is today. I don't expect him to kiss Bo's ass everytime he talks about his career, but a kind acknowledgment every now and then would be sufficient. Yeah, yeah...I've said all this before. Even though I DO have a music performance background, I am NOT a music critic. Maybe what I need to do is listen to Chris' music and see if he shows the full spectrum of his range as a "solid rock artist" on his CD. Nah....I'll take y'all's word for it. Give me a Puccini opera and Aerosmith any day of the week. |

Interesting. I've heard that this success is going to Chris's head somewhat and comments like that make me wonder. Although really, he is probably right. Chris gave Bo lots of credit in the beginning. He even said that if not for Bo, he never would've auditioned for AI in the first place. He was a huge fan and really thought the world of Bo. And Bo liked Chris, too. I always thought it was funny how when interviewers would ask Bo about AI5, how he would always seem to mention Chris before Taylor...even though Bo knew Taylor, just from being in the music scene in Birmingham. I always thought that was very telling. Seemed like a mutual admiration society. I have to wonder what Bo thinks of Chris's CD? And how he feels about Chris being allowed so much freedom on it? |
