NOTE: Just to keep things a little less cluttered I've merged both Mandrake movie threads into one so all the info is in the one place. Cheers.

Finally, some evolvement on this project. Mr. Russell helmed films like The Mask, The Scorpion King and Eraser (a cheesey but fun Arnold-flick).

I am looking forward to see Lee Falk and his creations get more attention in the forecoming time because of this.

Now, I don't really know if Russell is the right man for the job, but I really liked The Mask, starring Jim Carrey. I can't wait to see what he will come up with.

Yeah, but apart from the green head the film was a complete deviation from the comic. Can't say I'm too exited about this. -_-

I agree, I am not interested in a character called Mandrake if he has few of the characteristics that Falk's created.

Honestly, what I am looking the most forward to is to see Lee and (hopefully both) his creations see some well deserved attention again in the media. Whether the film will suck or rule the world is too early to say, but hey, I can't wait to see it anyway.

Oh, BTW, the script to the film have, according to Hollywood.com, been rewritten by a guy named Ian Jeffers, who also wrote the upcoming Death Sentence (starring Kevin Bacon) for the same production company. They must like him, then.

is Mandrake in DOTE like his comic persona? He seems to like saying 'illusion' a lot...

I wouldn't say the liberties they took are as big as the one they took with the Phantom, but it's still not quite the same character. The DOTE version was, from the top of my head, perhaps a bit more arrogant.

Yeah, he is more arrogant in DOTE, but he's a bit that way in the comic too, at least that's what I got. Also, in the comic Mandrakes illusions are exactly that, illusions. In DOTE they make it out like it's almost real magic, more like Marvel's Doctor Strange who is also a very cool character! :D

I wonder what sorts of power he (or, his grandson) will have in the movie.

It would be wonderful if he'd wear the trademark hat, tuxedo and cape in just ONE tiny little scene, as a nod to the fans out there.

It would be even better if he was attired in his traditional kit in most if not all scenes - then we could recognised him as Mandrake!!

Yes, off course, but we all know that's almost certainly not going to happen. :(

Just imagine what a great, epic movie they could have made if they were faithful to the strip... Starting with Mandrake's days at the "magic school", his strange relationship with his brother Derek, how he met Narda and Lothar, so on. "Mandrake Begins", if you'd like.

This CIA plot sounds like it's done before, really.

Yes, I would also love to see a Mandrake film that concentrated on his younger days and perhaps his first few years making a name for himself through his brilliant abilities.

Then, in any future film there could be a concentration on a solving a particular crime.

MGM seems to be distributing the Mandrake movie. If only they'd show some interest in the Phantom too.

But who knows, maybe if the Mandrake film does well, it could be helped to get comapnies interested in The Ghost Who Walks again. I can simply hear the voiceover guy in the trailer.... "Now, Lee Falk, creator of Mandrake the Magician, brings you the ultimate hero, in... The Ghost Who Walks! Coming to a theatre near you". ;)

So what house would Mandrake be in at Hogwarts - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin?
