A member recently asked about a Frew subscription. Frew doesn't seem to advertise the availability and prices of their subscription in their publications ( ) so I thought I'd put the info here for anyone interested in buying a Frew subscription.

Subscriptions from one year are available on the following basis:

  • Australia - $90
  • Asia / Pacific - $120AU
  • Rest of the World - $160AU

All subscriptions posted by airmail. Within Australia, payment is per cheque or money order. Overseas payment is per International Bank Draft in Australian dollars. Bank Drafts are available from most banks and they will charge you an extra fee. All remittances are to be made payable to Frew Publications Pty. Ltd.

All enquires and correspondence to:

Frew Publications Pty. Ltd.
Suite 401 4th Floor
160 Castlereagh Street
Sydney NSW 2000
Australia
Ph. +61-2-9261-8122
Fax. +61-2-9267-9856

A one year subscription will cover 31 editions (black and white printing), with per issue recommended retail price from $2.50AU to $11.00AU. The total retail price for a one year supply of Frew Phantom comics will vary, depending on the exact breakdown of the comic sizes and prices, but it currently stands at Aus$97.

Info gathered from DeepWoods.org

I used to subscribe back in the day - it sure is a great way to get the issues at your door, without any of of the pesky price tags attached.

The only problem I had was with the Post Office... No matter how much padding/cardboard was in the packages, or how many times you asked the postie, it seemed many of my issues were folded or damaged in the post. Things may have changed since then though...

How are the subscription comics sent out? Are the bagged and boarded or just sent in an A4 envelope? Also when your subscription runs out is it up to you to re-new it or are you sent a reminder.

Depending how they are sent out I may have to look into this.

When I was subscribing back in the day, the issues were simply sent out in a Postpak - ie, not bagged or boarded, and about the only protection they had was some thin cardboard and a rubber stamp asking "Please Do Not Fold". Needless to say, many of my issues were damaged when the postman tried jamming them into my postbox.

I guess this is how Frew can offer the subscription at a cheaper than cover price. I'm thinking of setting up a standing order with one of the comic shops here in Canberra. It'll be more expensive than the subscription, but at least I know that my issues will be safe, and won't have any pesky price tags either.

If anyone else out there currently subscribes and the sending method has changed in the past 5-6 years or so, please let me know, as I would still be interested in subscribing.

I agree with Daniel, Geaghs, get your issues from a comic store. Yes, it'll probably be more expensive as far as shipping goes but at least they will arrived bagged, boarded and in good condition. (I've ordered stuff from a number of comic stores via mail order and it's always arrived in great condition.)

To save money you could do an order a month and have the two issues for that month mailed out in the one go. Also, if you get your Moonstone issues from them as well then it'll be more convenient. And then you might even find some other titles you enjoy. Really, it's a win-win!

Any comic store will ship anywhere in the country so you should be fine.

I have started buying my Moonstone Comics from King Comics in Sydney now that I am up to date with my back issues (well all but), but I don't know if I will do Frew the same way.

I really don't mind the price sticker to much and I love being the first guy in the newsagent on a Friday asking them to open their delivery of Phantom Comics so I can get one.

I was more looking at a subscription as only having to pay once a year instead of having to find some shrapnel every couple of Fridays.

Daniel - What are some of the better comic stores in Canberra, I live in Wagga and my brother is in Canberra so I may look at getting him to pick up some orders for me.

The price sticker is not a problem these days - as long as you rip it off straight away and it does not have time to seep into the cover. However, they have made a mess of a lot of good comics in the past. I have a few I am still trying to replace, but find that although copies are up towards NM in condition, they fall down because of price tags and newsagent marks. Nonetheless, with patience I have been able to find some unblemished copies.

Yes, I also love the idea of visiting the newsagent and purchasing a copy or two of the latest Frew!!

I've used Dee's Comics in Belconnen previously - www.deescomics.com - which are pretty good, especially when I lived out that way. I was even planning on heading there after work today or tomorrow. Dee's also have an eBay store, I've bought stuff from there before then picked it up from the shopfront (saves postage), but really have to go through their back issues.

There's also Impact Comics city - www.impactcomics.com.au - never bought anything from them before though.

Interesting that you're in Wagga - Been through there plenty of times having come from Albury originally.

Intersting. I didn't know there was a store out at Belconnen. My brother lives out that way so next time I visit him I may have to check it out. Where are they located?

I have visted Impact once but I didn't really see much on the Phantom. I did pick up the latest Price Quide from there but it didn't seem to have much else.

They're on the opposite corner to the Police Station, across the road from the Belconnen Mall car park.

I have been to that Mall so many times and never seen it (mainly because I was going inside the mall). Will definately check them out next time I am over there.

It may have something to do with the drop of the Australian dollar. A few months ago it was US 97c in the dollar, now it is down to 72c.
