Guys, I have received a reply to the email I sent Mike. I've quoted his response below (my question are in bold).

Quote:

Can you give us any info on what's going on here?

A little.

Does Moonstone still have the license to make Phantom issues?

Yes.

Is your series coming to an end.

Yes it is... and a new beginning.

I realize that DE's series could possibly be produced alongside your own but the phans would really like some kind of announcement.

It will be. Expect an official announcement soon.

I understand if you can't talk about this just yet, but if you (or Joe for that matter) can tell us anything to give us an idea of what's going on that would be really great.

Big news coming soon. Stay Tuned.

Some all fears can now be put to rest. It'll be interesting to see that this "new beginning" is and where the series is going from there. So all hope is far from lost!

Hold fast, my man. It's all good. Moonstone has been planning a few big announcements for a couple of weeks now, followed by several great new things coming down the pike.

Good to see your still around Mike. The silence was starting to kill me.

Can I have a guess here?? Maybe a 22nd Phantom is in the works.

That could explain why Dynamite has the Licence to print the Phantom as well as Moonstone.

Few! As long as there are more Phantom comics on the way I'll be happy.

And the new announcements will be announced exclusively on CC! Well, I can dream... :D

Seriously though, this has gone from scary to exciting. Can't wait to see what is in store!

I just had a massive brain wave.

As some of you are aware (as you received the e-mail) Moonstone were/are looking for investors for a new venture.

Is a possibilty of a Moonstone/Dynamic Entertainment merger on the cards??

Honestly, I hope not.

I'm still skeptical that the "investment e-mail" had any connection to DE's Phantom announcement at all. Anyway, I don't want to speculate too much. My biggest fear was that Moonstone's Phantom comics would come to a premature end. Mike's post gives at least a tiny hope that Moonstone is not out of the picture.

As for Dynamite's announcement... well, I'm not impressed yet. But I think it depends a lot on how things go for Moonstone's Phantom. I'm open to new interpretations of the Phantom, but not if it is at the expense of a really good series that's already up and running.

Edit:
I just noticed that Mike made another reassuring little post over at the CBR Forums. I just hope that if Moonstone has something up their sleeves that they post about it ASAP. DE's announcement pretty much has the entire comic community assuming that Moonstone's Phantom is dead and buried already.

Finally, I can sleep well again. :D

Everything in this article sounds absolutely fantastic. Sy Barry doing a cover! New exciting direction inspired by the early Phantom stories! More prose stuff!

All fantastic in every way. Thank God Moonstone will keep doing what they do best; making excellent new adventures that respect what's come before.

Its good to see everything is as normal.

It is amazing how the rumour mill flys out of control over these things.

I am in two minds about this.

Firstly, I am not going to knock DE's Phantom comic before a single panel has been released. That is an important point to keep in mind.

BUT, and this is a big but in my book, the comments emanating from the publisher so far have been either inaccurate or of "the worrying kind" for most established Phantom fans. These comments cannot be ignored in the hope that everything with be OK when the first book is released. For example, DE's milking of the fact that Lee Falk may initially have considered a big city hero is a very, very tenuous point to make over 70 years down the line and quite possibly betrays an agenda we should be worried about and not be averse to criticise.

A clarification (?) saying that the Phantom will go "in and out of the jungle" is a pathetic, non-descriptive recovery attempt.

I am not impressed. The handling can only get better from here.
