I think we need to organise a party somewhere so we can celebrate all these things.

A suggestions made by Geaghs that we try and have a meet up at some point where all the members of the CC community can meet face to face.

Discuss where you'd like to have it held and if you'd be interested, make suggestions on locations and dates as well as anything else here!

I know this off topic for this thread (Sorry Gumby) but I think a get together could be good idea if organised right. I think it needs to be centered around a comic convention (do they still have those, surley they do) though. That way it gives people a reason to travel other then to catch up with people we have never met personally.

Dates for Supanova 2009 are

  • Sydney: June 26-28
  • Perth: July 3-6
  • Melbourne: March 27-29
  • Brisbane: April 3-5

That would work for me although it'd have to be the weekend of the 27th/28th (preferably the 27th) as I work during the week and getting to and from Sydney is a three hour trip for me each way.

It's been a while since I went to a Supanova con so it'd be fun to check those out again as well.

Sounds like a good idea, Gumby.

EDIT: I've extended the invitation to member of the the Phantom Phorum as well. The more the merrier. :D

From memory, I think this date was floated for a LFMBEC get together as I believe the crew from Supanova were looking at trying to attract another phantom artist to Sydney. I can't remember who was proposed at the moment but they were international.

It will certainly bring a number of phans to Sydney if that is the case, including the Central Queensland contingent. ;) Some arrangements may even be able to be made with the organisers for a mini convention as part of Supanova if you so desire.

JD, you may wish to discuss this further with the LFMBEC and/or the Supanova team as Daniel Zachariou is a member of the club.

It will need a fair bit of organising from someone in Sydney though!

Well, at the moment I think we're just thinking of meeting and hanging out at the con. For our first try I don't want to over complicate things but we'll see how we go.

Glenn is always at the cons, I'd be very surprised if he wasn't there next year. He seems to be the only creator representing the Phantom at Aussie cons which, really, is a shame. Says a lot about Frew IMO.

To see who the SupaNova crew are trying to get over we'll have to wait until yearly 09 when they announce the guest list. I really hope it's Mike or Hans, that would be brilliant!

I wud be the happiest person, to meet all you folks,, whether or not mineral water will be served at the meeting, but what about my return fare and accomadation?

The idea of meeting at the con mean that your expense to get to the meeting would be the cost of getting there and your accommodation. You wouldn't neoclassical even have to pay for entry to the con because those with tickets can enter and leave the venue at any time so we could have the meet-up outside where the con is held and then everyone could do what they want - go into the con or head somewhere else.

Yeah... I'm afraid any Phans locade on the EurAsia -landmass might be hard-pressed to come, because Australia is by far the MOST expensive place to fly to.

It's even cheaper to fly to the USA.

I think I would have preferred to hold it somewhere in EurAsia, altho I realize this would then put the Aussies off, since they'd be the ones that would have to pay a high fare.

BUT...! There is a decent enough compromise. And that is to hold it somewhere in Southern Asia. Preferrably Thailand or Japan, I should say. Smile

Japan, I think has after a quick check, got cheaper air-tickets than Thailand actually, even tho Thailand is a more common tourist-country for us Swedes. And it's a pretty good country at that.

Should be pretty damn close either way for both the Indian and Aussie fans. Wink

Altho I understand if the Indian Phans, whom might find it simply not economically feasible to go further than Thailand, feel that Thailand is the better country, with more affordable living and food.

Holding it overseas (outside of Australia) would put it out of reach for me and possibly many other Aussie phans. I understand that the Phantom phan base is international so having it in any one country is going to exclude others.

Of course, that doesn't mean there can't be Phan meet-ups in other countries for international phans. Perhaps each country could hold their own meet up? This way folks who can travel internationally will be able to meet fellow phans but then those who can't afford to travel internationally can still meet phans in their own country.

No matter where a Phantom-Meet were to be held, it'll be far away from where I live.
Think it's a great idea, however. Lot's could still be shared with those unable to attend, via photo's and film and recollections, and a second event could follow in a few years.
Who knows...secure a babysitter, take time from work...?

Wow this really took of over the weekend. I need to get my home computer set up ASAP so I can keep track of these things.

As I kind of first mentioned the idea I suppose I better put my two cents in.

As I have mentioned previously I think this a great idea and centering it around Supernova makes it pretty easy to organise as well. All you need to do is find out who is coming and organise to meet somewhere at the allotted time, maybe over Lunch somewhere on the Saturday.

I think if LFMBEC are doing something on that date as well, we should definitely go ahead and try to organise it in conjunction with them. As JD says "the more the merrier".

I agree that overseas would nearly put it out of my budget but if I knew a year in advance or so I may be able to save and attend. I think the idea of each country or area attempting to hold there own get together would be cool. If they were successful, then they could nearly become an annual events and then other phans from around the world (waves at Jim) can plan there babysitters and holidays and attend.

But baby steps to begin with and getting the first one of the ground should be the main goal. JD maybe you could attach a poll to this thread to see who would definitely attend, maybe attend & would not/can't attend. If the interest is high enough (I think we are looking at 4 or 5 definite’s already) then we can start organise something (and I meant to say "we" there, I willing to help out in whatever capacity I can).

Poll added! Everyone please vote!

Even is only a few people are interested (5 or 6) I still reckon we do it. As you said we still have the con to go to and other meets ups have started small and grown larger. So even if 5 people is all we get I reckon we should still try and make a go of things.
The photos and all will show those who didn;t come what a good time they missed. ;)
