Good idea JD. This has definately quietened down since it was brought up and I am still keen. I am actually thinking of going to Supanova even if this falls through. I have never been to a convention and I am thinking this would be a good one to check out. Plus i can catch up with all my mates in Sydney and see some league on that weekend as well.

Yeah, I'll be going to SN as well.

It is a good con BUT it's not a great comic con. In recent years it's become very much oriented around popular culture. Last time I went, which was three or so years ago, it was really heavy on the manga and anime stuff which I'm not interested in at all and is one of the reasons I haven't been back.

However, looking at guest lists of recent years seems to indicate the manga/anime stuff has quietened down and you can get some good stuff there.

So it IS a good con, there are always PLENTY of Phantom back issues, but it's nothing like, say, San Diego Comic Con or anything.

I would imagine it wouldn't, but at least you don't have to travel as far to get to it :D .

Get together a great idea, at a convention even better. But I don't even know on which continents the rest of you live, so, as I'm in Scotland, a journey to San Diego or even New York never mind somewhere in the Antipodes, is almost out of the question. There are still the odd conventions in G.B., but I don't expect folk to travel half around the world for a meet. This could be difficult for some.

Yeah. The biggest hurdle is always going to be where to hold one. That seems to be the sticking point for most people. I live in Oz so I am quiet happy with having it in Sydney but I can understand that this puts it out of the price range of O/S Phans.

I posted the below on the Phantom Phorum earlier this evening in response to a similar query;

Quote:

I personally would love to attend a get together overseas but I would need lots & lots of notice so I could save up and attend.

I think a good idea would be to get a few get togethers happening around the world annually & regularly. Then Phans can attend the one in their own region but could also plan to head overseas and visit other Phans at that regions get together. But that would have to be a fair way down the track because you need to get the first get together happening first.

Simply put, first Australia, then the World.

A question was then brought up on the Phantom Phorum as to why Australia first and the reason is because the people trying to organize it are based in Oz. I am sure if someone else form O/S was trying to organize it they to would organize to have it somewhere that is familiar to them.

A local meeting is better than no meeting. If you guys can get a group together to meet in Australia, at least it's a start.

That's the idea. This is the first thing like this we've tried to do so I think it's best if we go with what we know and not try anything fancy. If it works well then we can try for something bigger and work up to an international meet.

.....

If you are interested in attending the meet please let us know by voting in the poll on the CC main page! It's on the right hand side of the screen.

*Australian Phantom artist and ex-Frew cover artist Glenn Ford will most likely be at the con!

*The meet up will take place sometime during the SupaNova con in Sydney. The con runs from the 26th - 28th of June, 2009. Currently we are thinking of meeting on the Saturday (the 27th).

*There is a possibility we may be meeting up at some point with members of the LFMBEC, but this is yet to be finalized.

*A time for the meeting has not been finalized but we'll probably "do lunch."

*You don't have to pay anything to be part of the meet-up. All costs you need pay are to get yourself to Sydney, accommodation if you need it and the price of entry to the con if you wish to go. THERE IS NOT COST TO BE PART OF THE MEET UP! If you don't want to go to the con but still want to meet fellow phans that's fine as we'll meet outside of the con venue. After the meet people who wish to can return to the con and others may do as they wish.

The reason this meet up is being held in Australia is because the folks behind it live in Australia and know Sydney well. We are not trying to exclude phans from other countries, we simply feel that given this is the first meet up we've attempted to plan that it's best we go with what we know and not try to get too fancy.

With that said internationall phans are more than welcome to attend if they wish and if you'd like to have a meet up in your own country I'm more than happy to promote it on CC if you'd like.

As I said previously I'll post any information up-dates here but if you'd like you can also follow the discussion over at the CC thread where you are free to post comments if you wish. If you're not a member of our forums but have a comment or question please feel free to e-mail us at chroniclechamber@hotmail.com, just be sure to put "2009 Meet Up" as your e-mail subject.

Alternatively you can watch THIS page at the CC site to keep up-to-date with what's going on.

Cheers! :D

I was always planning on going to SN next year with a mate anyway. I think it would be great to meet up at the con at lunchtime and talk Phantom. Might be a little weird as it takes away the mystery (kind of) of posting anonymously on a forum. Also fight's may break out over back issues at the con!! LOL

For me the it's going to be fun to find out who is behind the user name, I can't wait to meet you all.

And yes, we might have to set up a boxing ring - winner takes all back issues. :D

I was about to post the same thing.

I suppose the next step is to wait until it is a bit closer to the convention, so we can organise the time's and where's of the meet up.

I'm sure this is no one's intent - that this is not some sort of "evil plan", but I feel totally swept aside as a member of the board from the posting of this thread - which clearly defines this as an Aussies only website. I don't know how many board members are from outside of Australia, but to suggest such a meeting via the board excludes the outside members and seems very much like a high school cliche.

I don't think anyone has stated that this is an Aussie's only website or Aussie's only get together. An idea was brought up to have a get together which everyone can attend if they wish to. As the guys behind the organizing of "this" get together are based in Australia it makes sense to organize this in Australia.

I say "this" because if any of you guys from around the world want to organize a "Chronicle Chamber" get together in your own country I am sure JD would have no problem with allowing the Chronicle Chamber name to be used or for these forums to be used to organize it. Heck, given enough notice I would love to catch up with you guys all around the world at various different "CC" functions.

I think the main idea though is to see if the Australian one works. If it does, then we could try to organize one in Europe for our European colleagues, another one in North America for our friends from there and then maybe others in Asia, Africa & South America (depending on where everybody is from).

Personally, my long term goal for this, if it is successful, is to have annual get together’s all around the world and then maybe once every 5-10 years have huge get together some where in the world that is planed well in advance so that everybody can attend.

So apologies to everyone if you feel you are being excluded from the get together, that was never out intention, but we had to start somewhere and organizing in our back yard is easier then organizing in places we have never been (but would like to :D ).
