Wow they're awesome... looks like it was a great night. It would have been great to see these in person.

Best of all, this picture pretty much confirms my "theory" on the Phantom being the inspiration for the first Nite Owl. :)

I'd love to see Gibbons draw an entire Phantom story. The covers he did for the DC mini were all great.

Great to read how Super Nova and the LFMBEC gathering went. It was also cool to see faces of members belonging to both CC's and the Phorum. The familiar names I spotted in photos Doug, germ, Geaghs, benno...Sigh...wish I'd been there. :)

They said after the auction that Dave would be making photocopies of the sketches he did, signing them and sending them out to everyone who attended so, yes, you'll get to see the sketches eventually.

Sweet, I thought I heard that but I wasn't sure.

--------------

I just remembered an amusing happening from the day that I will share just to try and embarrass Germ a little bit.

Germ was ticking some items of in his price guide when Nigel told him that he was using the right book. Germ then told Nigel that he thought it was alright but that the prices in the price guide were to high. It was only when I lent forward a few seconds later and whispered in Germs ear that he clicked that the person he was talking to was actually the writer of the price guide.

It all ended well though with Nigel signing Germ's price guide.
Yeh I also thought I heard that but was not 100% sure!

and yes it was quite embrassing but all the guys thought it was funny and it did turn out alright in the end :P

I'm just glad he didn't read my review of it on the site. He might have popped me one.

What about that assassin Moonstone reportedly sent to "visit" you after your review of Phantom Annual #2?

BTW, noticing the photo of Glenn Ford, does he still do Phantom covers? I always liked his work.

No, he doesn't work for Frew anymore. Do you remember while ago Frew re-printed Hoogan's Revenge using Glen's covers? He told me at the dinner he didn't see a penny for that.

That's really poor. Sy Barry does apparently not get any money when his stories are reprinted either (part of his King Features deal, I heard), which is an equally big shame.

Jim should really use more artists like Ford. The latest few covers I've seen posted on CC have been poor, to put it kindly. Bland, uninspired, and unmemorable, the opposite of what I've often seen Ford deliver.
