It is a follow on from The Mystery of Crocco Island (Frew 1186; 1997), and The Return of the Crocco Gang Frew 1198; 1998).

Seems reminiscent of the crocco gang stories from Egmont

Edit: Through that would describe it if its a follow on :)

I think there was a third comic in that series called the Harbor masters Secret or something simillar

Yep, last released in Frew #1224.

It was called "The Harbourmaster's Secret" if I remember correctly. (and "Hopkins hämnd" in Swedish)

One problem with this story as I see it is that Ryan doesn't know how the creatures look like and has created his own appearance. As he has done with the Jungle Patrol monument and the appearance of the Wasaka.

I was honestly hoping we'd seen enough of these Crocco guys now... That series went on a bit too long in the Semic books for my taste, though there were some good stories.

If De Paul should use some of his Semic/Egmont material for inspiration, I'd rather see more stories about "Johnny Hotwire" and the youth of the 21st Phantom.

While i find the crocco stories interesting i agree that more stories about Jonny Hotwire and the Phantoms youth need to be told

I do not like the crocco stories, and this time, Ryan does not know how they have been portrayed earlier. Phantomwiki.org has a good image on as how they look like.

Wow! There is quite a difference in the two depictions. The one from Phantomwiki looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
As far as I have understood, there is from where the original inspiration came from. When the three stories were re-run in Fantomen Krönika, there was aa article about that film.
