Hi All!

My name is Dean. I am 22 years old and am fairly new to the world of The Phantom having only collected for about 6 months so far. I read Frew Publications only but my local comic shop does sell imported Moonstone Phantoms as well and i think I may buy one soon to give them a chance.

I'd like to start by letting everyone know how I got here.

I have read comics since I was about 10 years old. It's embarrassing to say but I started reading Simpson comics as it was all my local newsagent had to offer. I then moved onto Marvel and DC when I was about 12 beacause my neighbours older brother was a collector and he would lend them to me. I favoured Spider-Man the most. Being a nerdy kid I liked the idea of a nerdy superhero. And so from then on I stuck with titles distributed largely by Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse.

Then in January of this year (2009) I was sacked from my small town job due to the global financial crisis and decided this would be as good a time as any to move to the big city. So with my savings I packed my things and drove to Brisbane. I soon found that it was just as difficult to find a job in a big city as it was a small town and found myself living off baked beans and sleeping on my mates study floor trying to stretch out my savings as long as possible. Not only did this mean not going out and socialising but it also meant not buying my beloved comics.

So with my superhero withdrawls in full swing I went to a newsagent one day to apply for a job when on my way out I spotted a heap of phantom comics for sale. I had always thought the phantom was for old men seeing as my dad read it when he was a kid but I noticed it had alot of content and was about a quarter of the price of the comics i used to buy and double the volume. So I figured I could spare $2.50 and bought one.

What followed was a surprisingly good read. And I wanted to read more. I then dug out a voucher from a local comic shop that I had received for my birthday that had $12.50 left on it. I took it to the store and walked away with 6 more Phantom comics. After reading all these I knew I was hooked.

Now here I am 6 months later. I now have a job at a respectable IT company and couldnt be happier. There was a part of me that thought that having money again might make me go back my old superheros but I have quickly found that I can't get enough of ol' Kit Walker. So now that I have money again I just buy MORE Phantom. New stories, Back issues, Annuals, Reprints. You name it and I want to read it.

He's sold me. I love the fact that he is a hero but doesnt have powers. But unlike Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark he doesn't need billions of dollars in gadgets to do what he does. He just needs his trusty horse Hero, his loyal wolf Devil and his two M1911 Pistols, Not to mention his famous rings.

The books have so much to offer. Not only am I treated with new stories but also reprints of old ones that I might have never been able to read otherwise. And the tales of Phantoms from every era are a great change of pace.

And now here I am, my Phantom addiction being taken one step further with joining this site. I hope to learn alot from other members who have been reading much longer than me and look forward to discussing recent issues in the forums.

Well thats enough from me.

I look forward to being a member!

Dean.

That's another of the appealing things about the Phantom stories for me.

Welcome, Dean. Congrats on getting the new job. Lucky the issue of Frew you picked up was a good one. There is soooo much Phantom content out there it'll be while before you run out. And we have all the news about it on the site, so hopefully you won't miss anything.

Glad to have you aboard, mate.

Hi Dean,

Good to see another phan here. I started reading the phantom when I was a kid but only started looking up the phantom on the internet and on Ebay in the last 12 months. I have learnt heaps, more in one year than in the entire time before. I am also in I.T so we should trade secrets some time.

welcome
Ben

I don't actually work in the IT department creating programs. What I do is act as liason beween customer and programmer. The company I work for makes software for small and large businesses to use. It's not the most glamorous job in the world but I enjoy it.

Welcome to the forums mate.

I to was only collecting Frew phantoms until a couple of years ago when I discovered the internet (and the CC website) and discovered there is a lot more out there. Now I grab every Phantom comic from around the world that I can get my hands on.
