After reading some of the recent Egmont stories (i.e. the Phantom Crusador - Phantom Gladiator - Hooded Justice) while these stories were interesting as a topic and have had the Phantom as a character in them, to me they just don't seem to be what I personally regard as Phantom stories and seem to be the direction that Egmont seems to be heading in.
Now I know that the Year1 arc wasn't really well done, but why not have a story arc that tells of the dramas that some of the wives must have gone through giving birth to the next in line (surely at least one of the Phantoms would have been born during a native uprising) or as morbid as may seem, outline the story of how each Phantom met his demise and how the rings were handed on (obviously they all didn't make it back to the skull-cave before dying), just off the top of my head I can only think of three or four stories that have addressed this topic, for instance there was mention that one of the Phantoms was burnt at the stake by the Singh Brotherhood.

I really like this idea Bill. I have always wanted some specific stories on the change over, especially the murder of the father. I would also love to see specific stories involving training the son.

Just out of curiousity, was it ever established which Phantom was the one that the Singh Brotherhood did burn at the stake?

Those are great ideas. Something I'd love to see is a story arc which explains and sets the "rules" for magic and supernatural events in the Phantom's world. It's a very vague area and as a fan of such stories is something I'd love to see explored more.

Those are all very interesting ideas, and if we get more in this thread we should send it to Egmont (they need ideas more than Moonstone, it seems).7

I'm particularly interested in the Phantom being burnt at a stake by Singh pirates. I can't recall ever hearing about this before, can anybody remember what story it was mentioned in? Sounds like it could make for a cracking dark story.

There are still several Phantoms whose deaths have never been described, and I would like to see them all get their "big finale" one day. It just adds so much to the Phantom's history.

As for what the wives have gone through giving birth and such, I think that should just be left alone. Why? It's a good idea, but last time Egmont tried to give us an "emotional" story about a woman's feelings, we got the p*ss-poor "Diana's Crisis" storyline, which dissapointed me very much with its bizarre characterization of Diana. I don't want to see anything like that "saga" anytime soon.

Just from my poor memory I think the ref: about one of the Phantom's ancestors being burn't at the stake was in Lee Falk's first story 'The Singh Brotherhood'.
As for trying to get Egmont to even read any storyline submissions, I think that you would have to personally hand any ideas into Ulf Granberg's hand and stand there while he read them in front of you. ;)

Phantom: Generations #14 details the passing of the torch from Father to son. Hopefully, it'll scratch your itch for that sort of tale, Bill.

sounds good Mike. As for me i would like more arcs like the Lubanga series and the Year One series were the previous stories actually effect the next and have an impact on the phantom and the whole comic series in the future.

rather than the seemingly stand alone stories we have now that have little to no impact on the next and are simply forgotten while the characters stagnate rather than growing and changing.

Everything that happens in the pages of Ghost Who Walks has an impact on the future. If anyone recalls how the plot threads were all knotted up in the Checkmate arc from the last series, there's more of that to come in the new series. Once the Godfall arc's deep secret is out, you'll know exactly what I mean...

This is what I love the most about comics, be it Moonstone, DC, Marvel, on-going Indies, whatever, I love that events the happen have weight and consequence, it makes the worlds so much richer. Seeing all those things come together in Checkmate was the kind of thing that makes me fall in love with comics all over again.

I have to disagree that Y1 and the Lubanga saga impacted future comics at all. Perhaps it's the way that Frew publishes the Egmont stories here but after those arcs nothing was mentioned. Y1 is a bit different because it was a historical story and as such had to be pretty much self contained. The whole Lubanga thing, however, left so many story opportunities that just weren't followed up on. Bengalla was left in ruins, the JP was almost wiped out, Bababu returned - all of this stuff and after the last page of Labanga Dead none of that was mentioned, it all just went right back to the pre-Lubanga statuesque. A complete waist of opportunity.

I think you miss understand me. I know they didn't impact on future comics in fact thats what i was complaining/ ranting about above but what i meant was that each issue in these extended story arcs related to the last one and each one effected the future (at least in the story arc). I use the lubanga saga & Y1 series as examples becuase they were not just a large single story broken up into many parts over several issues but rather 10 and more single issues that shared an overall storyline but were individual stories. which is what i would like to see more of except to see it not all forgotten once the story arc ends.

And thats what i love about Moonstone's Phantom Series its just that a series were things interrelate but at the same time can be individual stories instead of a series of unrelated "One-Shots" that we get from Egmont. Also have to say I am looking forward to the Godfall Arc i wonder if we will find out what happened to some of the phantom's old foes like Temur Singh or Sala.

Agreed i think they could have done something really good with these uncompeleted plot points its a shame really that they didn't.

Ooh, that's a heavy title. Doesn't bode well for our man in purple's possibilities for a vacation, I guess.

I think the Lubanga saga influenced Egmont stories more than it is credited for, though it was still obviously nowhere near enough. Lubanga did return, after all, and caused even more havoc in Bengalla. I also don't think we would have gotten the whole idea of a Singh member being the President of the country if it was not for this series. But sure, I think Egmont were too keen on having everything going back to normal. We have to consider, though, that they received a huge amount of complaints from readers during the period the arc was made, who WANTED everything to go back to normal (I certainly do not agree with them, as it gets stale to read a comic where everything is fine in the next story no matter what happens during an adventure).
