A thread for all things related to the man who was the Phantom. I'll post interesting updates on Billy's career here if I come over them. Billy has several movies coming out soon, one excellent looking WWII thriller called "The Hessen Affair", a film about the current political climate in Darfur in a film called, um, "Darfur", and a movie about racism called "4Chosen" (stupid title), where he is set to star with the at the moment equally underrated Laurence Fishburne. Zane has also headed into television recently, with a recurring role as Christina Applegate's boyfriend in "Samantha Who?", and will also star with Clancy Brown in an upcoming drama-comedy series about lawyers called "The Deep End". Paul's wish-list for Zane's future career: A role in a major Hollywood movie, a smarter selection of what movies he choses to do (the guy turned down the cult-hit Boondock Saints, apparently) and, most of all, a special cameo appearance on SyFy's The Phantom, where he would off course play Ryan Carnes' father in a flashback (don't come here and tell me you would not get a major phanboy kick if this happened). The guy is over 40 now, but still looks much more like how I want the Phantom to look than Mr. Carnes:

Billy is an awesome actor. He really should be in more "big" films. |

I for the life of me can't see why Billy Zane isn't being considered as the Phantom in any of the proposed film or T.V. productions, Tom Tyler was in his 40's and suffering from arthritus when he did the serial.

Yeah. I wouldn't mind he's not in "major" movies if the films he did now were more interesting, but he's got way too many mediocre B-movies on his CV now.
Yeah, and to add to that, Roger Moore was 46 years old when he STARTED playing James Bond, so age is not everything. I would love it if they found a way for Billy to play the dying father in either the TV-show or the movie. I would have thought Tom Tyler was in his early 30s when he was the Phantom, he looks much younger than he was (shame he died so young. I would have loved to see him in a Phantom serial sequel too). |
