Just Announced over at Comics Continuum

A New Two Part Mini series dealing with the Phantom and Capitan Action just when you though moonstone had increased its phantom output to the limit they increase it again :D

Extract Below:

Moonstone Books and Captain Action Enterprises have announced a March launch for a Phantom Action mini-series, teaming The Phantom and Captain Action.

The two-issue series will be written by Mike Bullock, with art by Reno and covers by Art Thibert, Mark Sparacio and Michael T. Gilbert.

In the story, the Phantom is captured and his wife Diana pleads with Captain Action to help. "It turns out the young Captain Action has had a crush on Diana since his teenage years, so that makes for an interesting dynamic," Bullock said.

The heroes have been paired in toy lines previously, but this is the first time they have met in a comic book

It'll be called Phantom Action. It's on the site now. Have re-named this thread to reflect the correct title of the book.

I'm still unable to find cover scans for Moonstone's books on any reliable site. Indeed they do, I'll be getting both those covers. Although Diana looks a bit manly on cover 1. Covers are now on the issue;s listing as well.

And OT, but Comics Continuum really needs an RSS.

I posted the below over on the Moonstone Forums so instead of re-writing it, I thought I would just quote my post.

I am little unsure on this cross-over.

While I am a massive fan of the Phantom and have also been collecting all of Moonstones Captain Action releases, I am not sure if I want to see these two characters co-exist in the one universe/time setting.

I have always pictured Captain Action's universe as a bit of alternate universe to ours with its technology and Aliens where as the Phantom is definitely set in the current world & time.

In my opinion the best Phantom stories are those that I see as realistic, the ones where you can dream that you are actually the guy in the purple suit battling “Him’s” army in Uganda or taking on terrorists in the middle east, the ones where even though you know it’s a work of fiction you just wish that there was some guy in Africa doing all of this because it could just be true.

I suppose I am just afraid that this crossover will open the way for the Phantom to join the battle against the Red Crawl and other Alien Menaces and Superhuman “Bad Guys” (for lack of a better term), giving us stories that I no longer see as realistic.

I am not trying to be to critical of this concept, I am actually quite looking forward to it as I enjoy Moonstones take on both The Phantom & Captain Action, I just hope that it does not have longer lasting effects on how real the current Phantom stories are.

I have to disagree Geaghs, as I love a good cross over (note I said GOOD) and I think the Phantom can work well in a "team" setting. But, you know, this can be considered an out of continuity story so it's not really going to affect your enjoyment of other stories or of the characters after it's two issues are done.

It's not that I don't like a crossover JD, I am all for them if the context is right. Heck, I would give my right arm to see a Phantom/Sherlock Holmes series.

It's just that I don't picture Captain Action (with its Aliens & Superhero's/Villains) as from the same universe/dimension/time as the Phantom. Personally I do not want to see Aliens in a Phantom story. As I have said in my post above my biggest fear is that the Alien Menace from Captain Action will somehow end up seeping into the storylines of future Phantom stories.

The worst Phantom stories I have ever read are those that involve creatures from another planet visiting earth and interacting with the Phantom as I personally think the story loose some of its realistic appeal when this happens.

It was pointed out me over on the Moonstone Forums that Mandrake & the Phantom co-exist in the same universe (which I agree with) and the Mandrake meets Aliens and creatures form other dimensions all the time. The reason I don't think I have an issue with this is because;

1 - I have not read a lot of Mandrake so I have not really been exposed to his interactions with these creatures/beings.

&

2 - In the few crossovers there have been with the Phantom & Mandrake the stories have all been grounded and set in the real world, no aliens/creatures form other dimensions/etc. It’s just the Phantom doing what he does best and Mandrake doing his illusionary magic.

Mike has assured me that this story will be very grounded and that the Villains will be like those in his other Phantom stories, so hopefully when I read it, I will get the same enjoyment that I get from reading the Mandrake/Phantom crossovers.

Sounds like it should be a good story then I usually hate any phantom story that delves into supernatural and sci-fi areas because IMO its not the correct genre for the phantom. so i am glad this miniseries will be well grounded.

while it would be cool and my inner doctor who fan would love it my inner phantom fan (The Stronger of the two) probably wouldn't want to see something like that because A) seeing as i usually wine about any fantasy or sci-fi phantom story because i don't think it fits in what i believe a phantom story should be and a doctor who / Phantom crossover would defiantly fit in that category.

b) as much as i like a good crossover i haven't actually found one that i have really enjoyed apart from the obvious novelty value of seeing the two characters in the same story (I'm hoping the first will be Phantom Action)

But having said all of that if they ever did make one i would probably end up buying it and loving it :P
