I will keep each of these forums brief as I know I for one doesn’t like Copy Pasta. Most everything is below. WHAT IT BE The Next Best Thing is… a group of people from all over the place getting together to socialize. We are an open community and you should stick around…seriously…or we will kill you… The Next Best Thing means…whatever you want it to mean. It has something personal to us all and is a very touching subject that has embraced us all deeply. That or I am lying and it is the site title just because it sounds cool. The Next Best Things purpose is...to develop a community that loves not only a variety of subject matter, but each other in a Jonathan and David sort of way. FOLLOWS THESE FU! Look up above at the top of the site. See that phrase called rules of engagement? Click it and read nub. KNOW IT! 1)This place is run by a council of elite members. We vote, choose, and decide everything ourselves. Exalted members also have a say. Power hungry struggles for power by declaring myself a dictator and trying to start a revolution will be laughed at by us. 2)Use the appropriate sections for your topics and such. 3)Spam is not crazy tasty! It is annoying. 4)Say hi. Stop lurking. 5)Rules and more customs subject to come if viewed necessary. Just conduct your self in an appropriate manner and we shouldn’t have a problem. OOO YOU IN TROUBLE!!! Actions that are viewed poorly by moderators can allow moderators to give you a warning score. If the action is severe enough that a punishment must be given then the punishment will be decided by the council. Severe punishments such as banning require a quorum vote by Exalted Members and higher. TAKING THE NEXT STEP To become an exalted member you must be a well liked, responsible asset to the community. You will be nominated and current members will vote (must have a quorum) to have you in or not. The same method will occur for other positions as well. TYPES OF FORUM GAMES There are at present 5 kinds, they will be listed and explained below: No Dice RP- An RP that consists of using detail in explaining what you are doing and where you are at (no stats). Combat is very hard and messy (God mod galore as you are unsure if you hurt or not). Opens the way for very elaborate ability to tell story, but story does not leave much room for interaction due to difficulty of communication (different times). Allows for ease of monitoring GM wise and lots of elaborate copy pasta. Pros: No tedium of dice; allows MANY players; interesting read for non-players Cons: No set game time so combat and communication is hard to get done; combat is hard (especially PvP);GM is not very active in guiding the adventure (normally a player class). Dice RP – An RP that consist of interaction with other players during a scheduled session, in which die rolls and stats determine what your character is able to do. Rolls can get tedious, but do give balance and make combat A LOT easier. Game style opens the way for on the spot improvisation, which leads to some very memorable gaming moments. Allows for a good sense of comradeship and adventure with lots of die rolls. Pros: Better balance and combat system; scheduled meetings; easier to interact Cons: No written record for non-players of what happened,;dice and rules can get confusing or tedious to newbies; requires a good typing speed. Play by Post- Games that start and end quickly, normally elimination type with PM’s occurring between players as there is normally some strategy between players involved. Pros: Can play multiple games in short setting (10 rounds are possible in a week); can give huge adrenaline rushes; great way to socialize Cons: Requires players to be active during the round to make it go quick; can cause drama if someone votes you off you considered a friend (just get over it!); new PbP Game ideas can take a bit. Forum Wars: A series of battles, raids, and games between other forums (friend or foe). Pro: It is fun I tell you. Real fun. Con: Drama Contests: Games/ ideas that are thought up by the current Gamesmaster (who is nominated by council). The games give you points for a cost that he asks of you (normally points). With points you can buy stuff. Pro: Rewards and Challenge Con: Costs could be too high |
