I don't get how so many people can't see past Nintendo's apparent "kiddy" image. Sure flying plumbers, talking foxes and training cute little monsters might seem childish, but aren't video games meant to be fun? They're there for you to escape the ordinary everyday world and do things you couldn't normally do and see things that don't normally exist. I guess once in a while running over cops in hijacked cars and blowing people's heads off is fun. But in reality, people have actually done those things. How many people can eat a mushroom and instantly grow or shoot fireballs from their hands? I guess Nintendo could try making some violent games, but they should also stick to what makes them Nintendo. But the problem is that people aren't respecting Nintendo for who they are, but instead they are disrespecting them because they seem to have a kiddy image. When you walk into a regular video rental store such as Hollywood Video or Blockbuster and go to the game section, there's shelves and shelves piled high with XBOX and PS2 games. Hidden from the rest, in a far off corner, there's about 10 Game Cube games. One time I went to Game Stop. I asked the clerk if they had any N64 or SNES games. He said they don't carry old games any more. To the right of me was a box filled with old PSONE games. Nintendo has been in the video game industry longer than Sony or Microsoft. They make purely fun games. Why are there so few who see this in them? Why does everyone want crystal clear graphics and FPS and GTA games? All they want is blood, gore and weapons. Why isn't it okay to once in a while play a game that actually makes you think instead of mindlessly shooting a gun in every direction possible? |
