I can already see the ending!
|
I was gonna make a point of this earlier, but I had to leave for a party. Good thing someone said it for me. Brawl ended up over-hyped. It "looked" incredible. I remember checking the Smash Dojo daily just to see if there was an update. This "epic" game ended up being a slowed down, prettier version of its predecessors. The Subspace story was good, but if it had been Melee hard it would've kicked soooo much ass. Getting Taboo trapped in a trophy stand on hardest difficulty was quite difficult, but I probably wouldn't have it still if Melee had an adequate successor. The games they make are gradually becoming easier and easier because the casual gamers, if you can call them gamers, fail at simple controls. I can't buy a Wii game anymore out of the fear I can't finish it out of boredom. |

Seriously? Galaxy's one of the few Wii games around that I didn't have to struggle to enjoy. Personally, I found it one of the best of the year (and not just on the Wii). Anyway, yeah, Brawl was painfully over-hyped, yeah, it wasn't as good as Melee, yeah, online play was godawful. But on its own merits, it was still a great game. In terms of mechanics, Brawl was a downgrade, but I still had a lot of fun with it (and still do). I'd rather play Brawl than any other fighter I own except for maybe the Soul series. Of course, this is an opinion coming from someone who never got very good at the series, and someone who got pretty tired of Melee after a few years, and someone who's admittedly adopted a casual gamer mindset (but with more tolerance for difficulty). Overall, however, I had way more fun with Brawl than I did with the original SSB. |

Was going to over-explain my opinion, but Lavos hit it on the head. In short: disappointing doesn't necessarily mean bad. Sure, Brawl had loads of potential it didn't live up to. Does this deter from the undeniably fun gameplay? Nope. And isn't fun gameplay what it's all about anyway? It's no wonder Ninty's approaching the casuals. The core gamers can never decide on what they actually want. |

Correction: We can decide what we want, but everybody wants something different. I'm mainly disappointed in how SSBB only appeals to me in Human vs Human multiplayer and the Stage Builder. I was able to spend 5+ hours in Melee doing continuous Human vs Lv9 CPU matches and loving every minute of it. Sure, it was even better when I was playing another person, but playing the CPU worked when nobody was there. With Brawl, I just obliterated the CPU and that's that. The only thing that is satisfying is playing other people. In fact, I think the only times I played it after beating Subspace was when you guys were online. The idea of making your own stages was good though. That's about the only aspect that could be left untouched that I could see myself indulged in for hours, but when there's nobody to play on them with me then there's really no point. Can't leave out the original SSB! Some of my best memories were playing 99-stock matches with my brother and sister that sometimes lasted 5+ hours. |

Mainly gonna respond to this. Maybe YOU can decide what YOU want, and more power to ya for that. But nine times out of ten, that's not the case. The typical core gamer is a wishy washy SOB who criticizes hell out of everything for multiple reasons, usually contradicting himself in the process. Happens all the frikkin time. Not responding to the rest of your post 'cause it mainly deals with the difficulty issue and, being the God awful Smash player that I am, it probably would be pretty ignorant of me to judge. Oh did they give it out in Japan?... I just had a hacked game lol. Someone just used the N64 emulator on the Wii and packaged the SSB ROM with it. |

It's been in Japan since about March, I wanna say. So yeah, they've had it quite a while. Not that that really matters when it comes to hacks though. Still waiting on getting some points to download this. Then I'll save the rest for Megaman 10.
