The ToK-verse Expands!
The ToK-verse has always been a vast thing, including a number of different RPs at the Temple. It includes all of the great Temple RPs, including Rise of Mars and Fall of Mars, The Temple of Kraden RP, and the epic and ever-evolving Clan War. But, just as the ToK-verse is vast, so is it convoluted. The ‘order’ in which these events lay is constantly in dispute. Set in stone, we know that Rise of Mars came first, followed by the events of the two current Golden Sun games. But there the certainty ends. Does the Clan War come before or after the Temple of Kraden RP? The peace exhibited in the Temple of Kraden RP would be a fitting end to the Clan War, but if the Clan War came first, where did all the technology go? And yet, if the Temple of Kraden RP comes first, then that means the lighthouses have been lit, a fact that is contradicted in the Clan War. And where does Fall of Mars fit into all of this? Not to mention the incongruity created from people who have RPed different ‘selves’ in both the Clan War and the Temple of Kraden RP.
Needless to say, the ToK-verse is simply too hard to properly analyse and formalise. But we do know one thing. It’s just gotten bigger! A new challenger appears! The Age of Adepts RP!
The Age of Adepts RP originated on the GameFAQs board, where a lot of work was put into it, but it was eventually deleted by admins for being “off-topic”. In comes the Temple of Kraden to save the day. The Temple offered to host the Age of Adepts RP, and so experienced an influx of members, including Ian, Bowserking, the famous Faust, and yours truly, Enro. New life was breathed into the RP, and yet, unfortunately, activity died out and the RP was laid to rest.
Until some time later, when Saturos, who had always enjoyed the unique battle system employed by the Age of Adepts, decided it was time to revive the RP again. A topic was made at GameFAQs to announce the revival of the old-time RP, in the hopes of drawing new members that had once participated in the original RP. This drew in one dragon_f0rce, now known as Kuroi Arashi, or Betty. The RP mechanism of Age of Adepts was tweaked, but the battle style remained the same. The new and improved RP drew in the great names of RPing, such as Saturos, GSAlex, Werebarret, and Dracobolt. Unfortunately, interest and activity in this unique RP once again flagged, and participation in it has fallen down to just a die-hard few. And so, it was decided that this great but under-appreciated RP should not go to waste. Saturos and Werebarret, with some minor input from myself, devised a plan to mesh Age of Adepts with the rest of the ToK-verse, by making it the prelude to Fall of Mars!
Jacob, Werebarret’s character in AoA, has introduced a new character, a young man with the familiar name of Michael. The eventual plan is to have Michael take over the known lands, with special appearances from GSAlex and Adnarel in the roles of Emese and Almus, characters from Fall of Mars. Eventually, Michael will have taken control of all of Weyard, producing the empire we see at the start of the FoM RP. But he’s not going to get there without some serious fighting! AoA plans to go out with a bang!
A Call to Duty
Browse through any collection of Golden Sun fanart, and what do you find? Wonderful illustrations of characters we love; Isaac, Garet, Ivan, Mia and all the rest. Even the antagonists. But where are the pictures of the character we love the most? Where is the love for Kraden? He who has imparted upon us his wisdom, his kindness, his mercy; surely he deserves more. We, my fellow Kradenettes, have a duty to fulfill. Already we have built up a great Temple in honor of the Wise Sage, but more must be done. Kradenettes, fill the halls of the Temple with your portraits/stick figure drawings of the one you serve!
Already several Kradenettes have contributed, posting their work in the ATTN: EVERYONE topic. Spella’s MS Paint rendition of Kraden shows him standing against a yellow-and-red polka-dot backdrop, his eyes bright with the light of wisdom. SeaMonkeyFarmer depicts him surrounded by vivid yellow stars, no doubt a symbol of his brilliant, ever-lasting power. Even some non-believers have made drawings specifically for the Temple. Kiki’s brother drew a buff-looking Kraden in a t-shirt, and Chrono Ivan’s talented sister painted him with a gruff, badass expression on his face.
Some Kradenettes have refused to even try to draw the Great Sage, whining that they have no artistic talent. They are nothing but blasphemers; heretics who do not truly believe. Do they not realize that any image of Kraden shines with the intensity of his awesome power, no matter how crudely drawn? Are they perhaps scared that their honest work will be scorned as “not good enough?” Maybe they are too lazy to make even a simple drawing to honor the greatest thing they have ever known?
Don’t be like those heretics! Draw Kraden today! Visit the topic ATTN: EVERYONE in the Art subforum to post your masterpieces, and view the works of others!
Fire Emblem enters the fray!
The new Fire Emblem RP has joined the Temple and its host of other RPs. Jointly GMed by myself and Delfeir, the RP originally had Kris in the role of Battle GM. RP would be in the general mode, but when time came for a battle, Kris would step in and engineer it all, in proper Fire Emblem style, with a map and stats and everything. While an interesting concept, the idea was eventually axed because it was just too complicated. Instead, what has formed, is an RP of the regular style, but with battles influenced by the mechanics of Fire Emblem. Characters fight in different styles and with different weapons according to their classes, and even criticals and the weapons triangle can come into the mix. Promotion will definitely come into play later in the RP.
The RP is set in a country called Allevia, who are a deeply religious folk. The Allevians believe that their king, Trovel, was put on his throne by the great Mala himself, and that he uses the Fire Emblem, the holy weapon of destruction, to mete out Mala’s justice. However, beyond the Kilika Ocean to the west, lies the brutish nation of Kaltra, who Allevia have been at war with for time immemorial. However, Kaltran superiority in the sea, with their countless Pirates, has lead to Allevia losing far too many battles for comfort. Some question why the King does not use the Fire Emblem to deal with the Kaltrans, and are losing faith in both their King and their god, Mala. Others hold fast to their religion, believing there must be some reason why the King withholds the use of the Fire Emblem… To the east of Allevia lie the barren plains of Kivon, which play host to the nomadic Kivona tribes.
Characters may either be Allevian, fighting the incoming Kaltrans, a Kaltran fighter who is somehow turned by the ways of the Allevians, or a Kivona, looked down upon by Allevians.
Both Kris and Delfeir, who know of the set out plot, have commented on its badassery and awesomeness. Unfortunately though, while initial interest in the RP was once high, participation has since dropped substantially. Some have, as is always to be expected, dropped out due to the user going inactive at the Temple in general. Others have simply lost interest and stopped posting. Myself, I hope that this article revives interest in the RP.
New members are always welcome to join, and old members can fall back into their old slots without any fuss. But please, don’t let my baby die. =’(
Temple of Kraden Fan Fiction Contest
Around the beginning of February, Dracobolt proposed a Temple-wide fan fiction contest. The aim was for all of the Temple’s talented writers to come together and put forth their best attempts at Golden Sun fan fiction, since the Golden Sun canon was what brought everyone to the Temple in the first place. The response was positive, and the deadline was set for the end of February. The restraints were that the story had to be over one thousand words long and a one-shot, and it had to focus on regular Golden Sun canon. This last requirement turned off some potential entrants because they would rather only write about Temple-verse things. But quite a few others took to the contest idea, and at the moment, the contest is underway. Who will win? Only time and the contest judges will tell. Rest assured that the Temple Monthly News will bring you the results when the contest finishes!
See That Girl?
Review by Kyarorain
Seeing as this issue is coming out on Valentine's Day, I have picked a fanfic of the romance genre to be reviewing. This one is about as non-clichéd as they come. It's not Valeshipping, Mudshipping, Flameshipping or Steamshipping. Shocking, I know.
See that Girl? by Joker's Specter, is set during the first game. It starts near the very beginning of the journey, where Isaac and Garet are being watched by a mysterious girl. It doesn't take very long for the girl to be caught by the very people she watches however and Garet quickly finds herself getting infatuated with her. At first glance, this might sound like Garet is being paired up with an original character. However, when you read through this fanfic and get to the twist at the end, then you will understand. I won't be spoiling the pairing for anybody who has not yet read this, but I can assure you it will be quite a surprise.
Coming from someone like Joker, this fanfic is well written with some memorable lines and definitely worth a read. It has its amusing moments as well and is good for a laugh. It's not an overly mushy, clichéd romance fic by any means and strives to be quite unique indeed. Perhaps it's a little disturbing as well, but I still think everyone needs to read this.
