Soviet Reign of Terror Ends!
Adnarel Resigns from Staff
After nearly four years, Solian Soviet Moderator Adnarel has been ousted from power, thus ending a reign of terror over the proletariat. The coup was mostly bloodless; peoples' captain Jackal suffered a bloody knee after he tripped on a bit of uneven sidewalk, but he is expected to recover. Whether this loss of the Soviet Staff team's most feared enforcer will lead to a power vacuum within the regime's administration is yet to be seen. Adnarel could not be reached for comment, but sources say that he is considering a position in the FAP. At the moment, all that is known is that Adnarel has given into rebellion leader Vačscent's demands that he "go back to Mercury, Light and Gold!" It is uncertain whether this will be permanent.
72 Hour Chat Room Session a Reality!
We all seriously need to get lives
Last weekend, the Temple geared up to break its two previous chat room records for 24 and 48 hours of continuous chatting. The rule has been that the main addon chat must always have at least one person in it at all times during the event. Despite the chat not starting promptly on Friday as planned, the event gained momentum over the weekend, with members from all parts of the world holding down the fort as folks needed to pop in and out for sleep and obligations. Conversation topics ranged far and wide, and shenanigans such as alting occurred. Despite difficulties, the Temple completed its goal. What's next for the chat room? Rumors speak of a 96 hour chat, but it's safe to say that won't happen for a while. The staff could not be reached for comment on the subject of profile awards for the 48 and 72 hour chat sessions.
What makes an RP good? The depth of its story, perhaps, or how engaging the characters are. The untapped potential in its development. A good RP has to draw its RPers in. It has to generate enthusiasm about its progression. Needless to say, the Temple has many good RPs.
But what about a great? What makes it rise above the rest of the pack? Good RPs are in abundance, but the ones that you could qualify as great, as exceptional, are harder to find. They are counted; a few RPs, such as Fall of Mars and Clan Wars (in its prime), come to mind. Historically, and understandably, truly exceptional RPs are rare. However, as luck would have it, the brilliant minds at the Temple (That's YOU! You should feel proud of yourselves right now) are constantly developing roleplays that have very bright futures, like child prodigies that will grow up, move out of the house at 12 to go to university, and never call you.
Frozen Candlelight is one of these. Originally the brainchild of Kris and Werebarret, two of the best RPers in the Temple, it has undergone a reboot after a season of inactivity and is now beginning all over again, with renewed interest from the userbase. Reminiscent of Clan Wars, but with an entirely different story thus far, Frozen Candlelight is a freeform Templeverse RP currently GMed by Zephira and Tan.
The original Frozen Candlelight had an intriguing plot being prepared, and only prepared, as it didn't last long enough to arrive at any major plot points. As of the writing of this article, version 2.0 of the RP has followed the first version's footsteps, with the same preliminary plot being put in place: the visit of the clan Leadres to Vale. Those players who don't play Leaders or Seconds are so far following their own stories.
Judging from the present state of the RP, the fact that Werebarret and Kris left several ideas in place, the confidence of its new GMs, and the intereset the reboot has generated in RPers, Frozen Candlelight has every chance of becoming one of the best RPs that the Temple has seen. However, we must remember that great RPs are not always as immortal as we would hope them to be -the original Frozen Candlelight is an example of this- and that there have been cases where great RPs have become decadent. It is up to the combined efforts of RPers and GMs alike to ensure that Frozen Candlelight develops into the most enjoyable RP it can be. And it seems as if it will be very enjoyable indeed.
On gettin' yo mouth cut up: Oral surgery
Last Friday, I went to have my wisdom teeth taken out. It was not my first time receiving oral surgery. I have always had an insatiable sweet tooth, so I practically grew up with cavities and fillings. Also, I had braces for six years, and during those years, I had to undergo a sugary to correct a permanent tooth that was coming in crooked by connecting it to my braces via a chain. It was exactly as painful as it sounds. So I figured after going through that, that my wisdom teeth would be a cakewalk. I was quite surprised. I chose to stay awake for the procedure for two reasons. First, I felt as if I could take it. The other reason was that I didn't like the idea of an needle under my skin. I wasn't expecting the shots directly to the roof of my mouth to be much, much worse. Oh man, I literally had to sit on my hands to stop myself from swatting at the dentist. But thankfully, those two shots were very brief. After a few minutes, I felt like my face was a balloon. You could have slapped me across the face with full force and I would not even feel it. So when the desist starts in on my right top tooth, it's nothing. I'm just relaxing in my chair, listening to my iPod. Aside from the insane amount of pressure on my jaw, it's not that bad. Then comes the bottom teeth. For some reason, those two required drilling to reach a nerve, so he could put a Novocain shot directly into the tooth. THAT hurt. And not to mention listening to the sound of the teeth getting crushed up was a little... yeah. So after the surgery, I keep being asked if I'm okay, which I'm fine afterward. I just wanted to go and get my drugs. Well, by the time me and my dad get to CVS, there is a huge line at the pharmacy counter and my Novocain was wearing off and my gauze was bleeding through and I was starting to drool blood. By the time I got home, I was crying like a little bitch. Seriously, the pitiful noises I was making was making my cat nervous. But once the painkillers kicked in, I felt better, save for having to nom gauze and drool blood for about three more hours. So now, my only gripe as I write this after two days is that my cheeks are a bit swollen (my parents keep calling me "chipmunk") and I'm still a bit sore, but the worst part is not getting to eat my favorite foods. My diet pretty much consists of milkshakes, yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, cottage cheese and popsicles. You know, what, on second thought, that is an awesome diet.
Ask Mister Advice Guy
Dear Mr. Advice Guy: I love to create stuff! I have the coolest ideas and enjoy writing and blogging about them. Only... I have trouble with finishing things and am constantly starting new projects. What should I do?
Dear Totally Not Jackal At All,
Eventually, you'll come across a project that people will make you finish. Usually at gunpoint. I advise you take up a life of solitude in some Southeast Asian country before that happens. Might I recommend Thailand?
