Age Statement (I am over 16); Yes.

Character Name: Former Police Constable #186, Andrew Iwan Davidson (Andy for short, thanks.)
Age: 27 (DOB: January 25)

Description: Tall, gangly, and a little bit awkward, Andy's got no poker face to speak of, even when he tries. Brown eyes, and slightly ginger light brown hair that verges on blond in the summer. Andy used to spend a lot of time in uniform, but now he's out on his own, he tends toward loose, casual clothing. He's bog standard ordinary. He's actual size. He wants a cool coat.

Personality: Andy's a normal bloke, whether he likes it or not. He's made peace with that more or less, though he's always hoped for something more. He used to harbor a quiet desire to advance with the police, but he was passed over more than once before Torchwood recruited him. Word has it his superiors thought he lacked aptitude. It's possible that they simply lacked imagination.

Ambitions aside, he cared deeply about his work as a police constable, and takes his work with Torchwood equally seriously (deadpan humor aside). His heart strings get tugged a lot, but he's a good judge of character and isn't afraid to call things like they are. He's plain spoken without being vulgar, and good with people on the street. He's not above a bit of sarcasm, and is occasionally funny without intending to be. Andy can also be a little temperamental, especially if he's been under pressure for an extended period, of if lives are on the line.

He still carries a bit of a torch for Gwen Cooper (and a fair amount of disdain for Rhys). He's glad he's working with her again, even if it is a little bit awkward to be a junior field agent. He also fancies Tosh a bit, mostly because she's pretty and generally nice to him, but also because she's brilliant. Andy tries (and these days is starting to succeed at) not to be fazed by Jack's flair for bizarre commentary.

Specialties: Andy's got a good working knowledge of Cardiff, and a broad social network. Chances are he's met someone who can help him out if he needs something special. Contacts on the police force mean he's relatively well-informed where mundane news is concerned. He's field trained, and can use basic police equipment. Also, he's not bad at pub quizzes, and knows a fair amount about basic consumer electronics.

Problems: Mundane competency aside, Andy's a born skeptic, and woefully underinformed where things like aliens are concerned, and will typically lean toward rational explanations rather than fantastic ones. He's making a good faith effort at playing catch-up, though, and learning to apply this approach in a world that's far broader than he's always comfortable with. Andy is also less than tactful on certain topics, and may shoot his mouth off without thinking. Andy can also be moody under prolonged stress.

Some Skills: Basic police training, some training with riot equipment. Some basic counseling training. Snark. Computer literate. Able to operate a GPS unit without assuming it's high tech or alien. Since Torchwood, has added basic psychic training to his repertoire. Post-1925 (Field Tripping), Andy's also carrying around a heap of Owen's memories. While awkward -- there are some things no man wants to know about his colleagues -- it did give him a nudge toward having potential as a reasonable field medic.

History: Oh, a little of this, little of that. No skeletons in the closet, really. Normal family (mostly). Little bit of a dating history. Middle of the road student. Joined the police because he thought it sounded exciting, stayed because it's the right thing to do. Joined Torchwood for the Greater Good.

Random Facts Which Have Come Out In The Telling

Life Stuff:
- Was raised in Carmarthen.
- Went to university in Lampeter to please his mother. He majored in Film & Media studies, but did not take his degree program particularly seriously.
- Moved to Cardiff right out of university in hopes of joining the police.
- Lives in Roath. (See Also: Andy's Flat.)

Family Stuff:
- Andy's mother and father are living. His mother thinks policing is dangerous and wants Andy to do something more worthwhile. His father is proud of him, though Andy suspects he's merely pleased his son isn't doing some sort of menial labor.
- His father thinks Andy might be gay because he's still unmarried and not dating. His mother is still bothering him to find a nice girl and get married.
- Had a grandmother who either spoke Welsh or knew a few favorite phrases.
- Has a grandmother who is feisty and independent. (These may or may not be the same grandmother.)
- Has an Aunt Bethan who's into New Age beliefs.
- Has a cousin Eric who hikes.
- Andy lost a sister when he was a teenager. It's not something he's ever discussed with his workmates and friends in Cardiff, but now that he's traded memories with Owen he may not have much choice.
- Andy's paternal grandfather was from Scotland and came to Wales to work. He still has family in Scotland and England.
- Andy has a cousin named Lawrence who runs a video shop.

Social Stuff:
- Has friends in Cardiff, mostly through the police.
- Occasionally plays basketball with one or more of his mates, including a man named Trav (aka PC Derrick Travis).
- Being Torchwood has not gone over well with his police mates, and his schedule prevents him from doing some of the social things he used to do in his free time.
- Definitely fancies Toshiko.
- Carries a torch for Gwen, but is trying to let go for her benefit.
- Has bisexual potential, which he discovers by accident in 1925 as a result of his memory swap with Owen and a snog with 1925!Jack. If asked, he'll point out that he'd never really considered men an option because he likes women and it was never an issue.

Personality Stuff:
- Is needlephobic, but covers well. It's worse the less lucid he is.
- Is not put off by innuendo/sexual humor with other men.
- Will call others out if he thinks he's being lied to, or if they're talking bollocks.
- Feels strongly about the oath he took as a policeman, and joined Torchwood so that he could uphold it in ways the constabulary can't.
- Has a fairly well-established morning routine.
- Feels strongly about giving Jack a chance to prove himself to the team because of what Jack told him during the weevil hunt, and because he feels he was recruited in an effort to make peace with the other four.
- Dreams semi-lucidly (is aware of being asleep/dreaming).
- Doesn't like feeling helpless or inactive.
- Uses physical activity/exercise as a coping mechanism.
- Will push himself well beyond comfortable limits for the benefit of others.
- Can be a little bit paranoid, especially if he's under stress and overtired.
- Is generally polite and respectful of authority unless he feels threatened.
- Gets a kick out of playing with alien equipment/weaponry, especially the weird stuff.
- Does not always exercise caution with alien tech. In fact, is surprisingly likely to choose it once skepticism gives way to wonder (alien cookware & viewer on Auntie's ship, brass and glass flame guns in 1925).
- Is willing to take risks or sacrifice himself for the safety of others (e.g. submitting to brain scans, agreeing to remain a hostage for Gwen's benefit, using psychic gel to prevent Pearl from taking Owen).

Body Stuff:
- Wears contact lenses.
- Is right handed.
- Has a scar on his left calf from a bicycling accident that occurred after a friend cut his brake lines as a practical joke.
- Might be mildly hypoglycemic.
- Has been shot twice: once while wearing an ablative vest (Shadow Beast) and once by Toshiko upon returning from 1925.

Mental Stuff
- Has accumulated a number of borrowed memories through the course of his psychic training. Highlights include a near-complete (and reciprocal) exchange with Owen whilst in 1925, one of Jack's memories of escaping a spaceport, and an instance of having sex (with Jack) as Harriet Derbyshire.
- Has seen some alien memories using the Viewer on Auntie's ship (a barren moonscape, Quinar juveniles consuming a weaker sibling, a war zone full of dead Malmooth). Is also very slightly better at calculus.
- Has been "lost in the darkness" on the way back from 1925. If asked, he'll describe a state in which neither time nor perception are meaningful, but that he was conscious. Where he actually was is undetermined, though it's possible it was the Void.

Random Stuff
- Likes rugby. Has at least one Carmarthen Quins t-shirt.
- Takes his coffee black, but will sweeten the bad stuff to make it palatable.
- Isn't much of a whisky connoisseur, but is willing to give the good stuff a go.
- Owned one of the old Acorn computers when he was young.
- Drives a silver 2006 Vauxhaull Astra.
- Had a highly experimental phase at university in Lampeter. Was nearly arrested during his second year whilst in drag (miniskirt, fishnets, electrical tape on the nipples), and has a surprising amount of experience with drugs, alcohol, and mischief which probably served him quite well as a constable.
- Was in "scouts" at some point.
- Did film and photography as part of his fine arts requirement at Lampeter.
- Got a bike for his sixth birthday. He was too small for it.
- Can use the term "predestination paradox" with a straight face and mean it.
- Has a couple of the common generational sci-fi related kinks.
- Anthropomorphizes the Mainframe, and believes it helps him with technical tasks.

Before Torchwood...

Open Season
In which Andy unexpectedly encounters Captain Jack Harkness, mistakes a weevil for someone who belongs in a group home, and runs afoul of the "special" coffee.

How Andy Joined Torchwood
- Andy's Flat: Case of the Mondays - Andy's last normal morning starts here.
- Police Station: Case of the Mondays - In which Andy brings a case to Torchwood's attention. (Note internal link to Night Work post #2, in which Andy is called to assist at the scene of crime.)
- Brigid's: Case of the Mondays - Andy meets Gwen at a cafe to go over the evidence. (Note internal link returning us to Night Work.)
- Night Work, starting with post #4. Andy revisits the scene of the crime, meets Jack again, and gets an offer he can't refuse.
- Tourist Office: First Impressions - In which Andy goes in the front door.
- The Hub: First Impressions - And then he meets a pterodactyl, the rest of the team, and is skeptical about aliens.
- Andy's Flat: If I Am Missing Or Dead - Andy takes precautions.

First Mission: Night Work
- Andy's Flat: Case of the Tuesdays - Minor shifts to his morning routine are only the beginning.
- The Hub: Case of the Tuesdays, posts #1-31 - In which Andy still does not believe in aliens, clearly fancies Tosh, and teases Gwen.
- The Cells: Where The Monsters Are - Andy gets his first dose of the lower levels, Jack introduces Andy to Janet, Andy remembers the events of Open Season, and Jack is unusually forthright about the team's situation.
- The Hub: Where the Monsters Are(n't), The Hub: Thoroughly Trucked, The Hub: Case of the Tuesdays post #36, Medical Bays: Triple-header posts #6-20 - Wherein Andy gets involved in the real work of the investigation.
- The Hub: Research posts #5-8, Clubs and Restaurants: Spice Merchant, The Hub: Tuesday Lunch, Boardroom: Tuesday Lunch - Andy picks up lunch for the team, useful discussion is had over said lunch, and Andy suffers a little for being in the same room with Gwen and Tosh.
- Gwen's Station: Case of the Tuesdays posts #3-15, Machine Shop: Mission Prep posts #8-19 - Andy meets the Mainframe and turns out to be reasonably good at looking up phone records. That's when things get urgent.
- Medical Bays: Triple-header posts #30-45 - In which there is more Andy/Tosh flirting, and Owen gives him a small prick.
- Machine Shop: Mission Prep post #24, and Lower Levels: Final InstructionsLower Levels: Final Instructions starting with post #2 - In which Andy prepares for the mission and meets up with the team. Also, first appearance of the Glue Gun.
- On The Way Out in which they travel to Handor's Metal Recovery and the show-down with the Shadow Beast and its handlers. Posts 1-38: In spite of a gunshot (to the vest), Andy proves to be stubbornly resilient (or maybe just plain stubborn). Follow him after that post to Handor's: Shadow Beast up to post #13 (Note that Andy briefly darts into Handor's: West GateHandor's: West Gate for posts #8-#12).
- Handor's Metal Recovery: Posts #42-44. The heat's died down, and Andy has his first run-in with the constabulary. Gwen relieves him and sends him back to Handor's: Shadow Beast posts #52-62, in which Owen checks him over and post-combat conversation ensues.
- Triumphant Return: posts #4-6, Other Areas: Communal Lockers: posts #2-5, Medbay: Treatment: posts #2-11, Case of the Tuesdays: posts #37-42. Andy gets in, cleans up, gets checked over by Owen, and then heads home.
- Case of the Wednesdays: In which Andy gets a few hours of downtime.

Second Mission: Refugee
A prank call from Andy's old police mates turns out to be a proper spooky-do.

Third Mission: The Night Travelers (aka "Field Tripping")
A seemingly routine trip to the countryside goes terribly awry when Andy, Ianto, and Owen fall through the Rift and land in 1925.

(To be updated as more material makes its way into the archives.)

Andy's Psych Questionnaire

Notes: Andy's questionnaire is filled in with a pencil. His handwriting is clear, if a bit unsophisticated. He prefers to print his letters rather than engage cursive in penmanship, and some of his lowercase letters are actually small versions of the uppercase ones, though this is not consistent throughout.
