User Name: onebrightroad Contact Info: Age Statement (I am over 16): Yes Character Name: Martha Jones Age: 24 (DOB February 17) Description: Martha is an attractive young woman with straight, shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes. She dresses smartly but practically, and usually puts her hair up to keep it out of the way. She’s most comfortable in casual clothing, but she also enjoys dressing up for the right occasion. She is 5’3” (160 cm.) tall, and is physically fit and strong. She has a tattoo on her right upper arm and another on her left hip. Personality: Martha is friendly and outgoing, with a bright personality. She puts her best effort into everything she does, and her dedication is usually rewarded. Martha handles stress well, and deals competently with challenging and unexpected situations. She is good at working independently, and while she isn’t a loner, she enjoys solitude as well as company. She loves and is deeply loyal to her family and close friends, but has had only brief romantic relationships until recently. She is professional in her work life, but is also approachable and friendly with patients and colleagues alike. She is empathetic and compassionate, and usually earns the trust of others quickly. She is willing to sacrifice herself and endure personal hardship if necessary to save others. Specialties: Martha is currently a medical officer with UNIT, and has qualified as a medical doctor. She has experience with a number of alien species and environments, and is a former time traveler. She has some military training via UNIT as well as martial arts training gained on her own. Although she’s had weapons training, she prefers to use less-lethal methods to subdue antagonists. Problems: The past two years have left a number of emotional scars on Martha’s psyche. She has experienced some PTSD symptoms (primarily nightmares, insomnia, anxiety and hyper-vigilance), although they have begun to fade. She also feels lingering guilt over an incident that involved her family. She simultaneously feels both incredibly connected to humanity as a whole and terribly alone due to her recent experiences, which makes her somewhat emotionally vulnerable. She takes losses hard, and sometimes invests more effort and emotional energy in people, relationships and situations than is wise or warranted. Some Skills: Aside from the skills mentioned above under Specialties, Martha is a decent shot with several different weapons (handgun, rifle, bow and arrow), she thinks quickly and can improvise on the fly, she runs fairly fast and is relatively strong, she’s a competent computer user but is also able to perform research effectively using paper sources, and she can perform non-computer assisted tests and analyses on chemical and medical/biological samples. She’s a good driver, and can drive cars, vans, small lorries and motorcycles. She dances well (her favorites are swing and salsa), and picks up new steps quickly. She speaks German fairly well but with an English accent, and she also knows some French and Yoruba words and phrases. History: Martha was born in London on February 17, 1984, the middle child of three children. Her parents, Clive and Francine, divorced when she was 20 and in medical school at King’s College, University of London. She has a younger brother (Leo) and an older sister (Tish). Her cousin, Adeola Oshodi, was an employee of Torchwood One who died in the Battle of Canary Wharf. She has other family members who live in Nigeria, as well as in London, Brighton, and Manchester. Martha was a good student throughout her school career, and had no difficulties getting into medical school with her exam scores and grades. She was an outgoing and sociable child, but also loved books and learning new things, which kept her out of the popular crowd at school. Her childhood was filled with friends, family, school, and occasional visits to family members in Africa. Seeing the poverty level and hardship that many people in Nigeria face, especially in the smaller villages, led Martha to decide to study medicine out of a sincere urge to help people. Her family supported her decision to become a doctor. She applied herself seriously to her studies, and received high marks and recommendations from her professors and the hospital staff she worked under as a student and resident. She was near the end of her second post-graduate year after completing her studies at King’s College and working as a resident at the Royal Hope Hospital in London when she met the alien known as the Doctor. After a nearly fatal adventure involving an involuntary trip to the Moon, the Doctor invited her to travel with him and she accepted, staying with him for roughly a year. She and the Doctor had many adventures together as they traveled through time and space. During her time with the Doctor, Martha became involved in a time paradox that threatened humanity and the Earth. While the paradox was ultimately resolved and the threat was removed, the incident left its mark on Martha and her family. She is proud of her own actions during this event, which were pivotal in resolving the paradox and neutralising the threat. But she also feels guilt and remorse that her family members became involved and were harmed during the incident. Following this event, Martha left the company of the Doctor and returned to London to spend time with her family and to complete her clinical exams and deliver her final reports on her residency. Shortly after she qualified as a doctor, she was recruited as a medical officer by UNIT, and has been training and working with them since. She does not particularly like the military nature of UNIT, but she is excited by the prospect of continuing to work with alien species and technology, and to have wider opportunities to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others. She currently lives alone in London, and has recently started dating a paediatric doctor, Tom Milligan.
