OOC: Mainly Adam & Tosh, but we're starting in the hallway near the target range, so Martha might pass through? Adam stepped away from the console and back into the hallway. "I was too late." His voice was like a snarl. Too slow "Gwen's escaped. But not before she got to Ianto." He considered the array of possibilities before him. "He tried to attack me. We can't trust him either." |

Adam stepped into view and Tosh's heart thudded in her chest, a flurry of skipped beats released. She was so worried that his sheer anger didn't register: she stepped close, gripping his shoulder before running her hand down his arm and over his chest as if to assure herself that he was okay. She'd always been physical. "He tried to attack me. We can't trust him either." "What do you mean, she got to Ianto?" Tosh asked, frowning. "And who initiated the lockdown? I left my PDA upstairs--" She looked past him to the console. All things considered, she was shocked and hurt, but not surprised. He'd always been bad, Ianto: she didn't want to interfere with how Jack did his job, but privately she'd always thought that he was insane to have Ianto working for them. If he was back in the Hub, it needed to be in one of the cells--and Tosh thought that compared to that a huge dose of retcon or a bullet to the skull was probably preferable. |

Tosh's hands running over his form distracted him, leaving little pinpricks of sensation and trails of thought, idle memory and worry seeping through. He grasped her hand around the wrist, thumbing slowly at her skin. "Gwen found Ianto before I got there. I don't know how she did it, exactly, but she tricked him into helping her. He was confused, but he definitely initiated the lockdown in order to keep Gwen out, not in." He sighed, and sent a tendril of an idea Tosh's way, about Ianto and trauma and worry. "I suppose he must be more susceptible to that sort of thing." Adam's hand trailed up her arm, curling around her shoulder. "We need to see if he's done anything to the Mainframe." |

Martha hurried down to sublevel 3, medical kit in one hand and stun gun in the other. She preferred not to use lethal weapons, but that didn't mean she was going to go into a potentially dangerous situation totally unarmed. She moved as quietly as she could, stopping occasionally as she went to listen for movement or conversation ahead. As she reached the hallway leading to the firing range, she heard and then saw Adam talking with Tosh. Good, both of them were safe. There was no sign of Gwen or Ianto, though. "Adam, what happened in there?" she asked as she stepped towards them. "The CCTV feed dropped out upstairs. Is everyone okay?" |

"Gwen got to Ianto before I could," Adam said, and repeated what he'd told Tosh. "I'm glad she chose to escape rather than try attacking me, too, but I'm worried for Jack and the others." He passed a hand through his hair. "And the computer. I'm worried that the glitches may be related. We don't know what this is, and we don't want to be defenseless." Chaos. That was his best option right now. Leave them open to as many suggestions as possible, and they'd do whatever he said. He wove his fingers around Tosh's, pulling at bits of her memory almost instinctively, winding her around him. |

Martha listened to Adam's account of what had happened in the firing range and nodded. "It's not good that Gwen got out, but I'm sure Jack can handle her if she tries to find him," she said. Now that Gwen was out of their reach and the immediate threat was past, she relaxed a bit and started thinking about what she could do to help in the aftermath of this strange incident. Clearly, Tosh and Adam were best equipped to look into the problems with Mainframe, and it appeared that Adam was unhurt from his encounter with Gwen. But someone wasn't accounted for yet. "Where's Ianto? I didn't see him pass by on my way here. Was he okay when you last saw him?" |

Tosh read Adam's grip on her hand as a tiny sign of the nerves he was too professional to articulate. Of course it must have frightened him, having Gwen turn on him like that. Tosh squeezed his hand tight, trying to transmit all of the reassurance and love that she could. “If Ianto's got into the Mainframe...” Tosh trailed off, unable to even think through that possibility. She reluctantly let go of Adam's hand, stepping back. “If you find Ianto, Martha, we can go and sort things out.” Adam didn't technically have Mainframe access—it simply wasn't part of his remit—but Tosh couldn't think of any reason not to take him with her: he was Jack's right-hand man. |

"Where's Ianto? I didn't see him pass by on my way here. Was he okay when you last saw him?" Adam hadn't exactly forgotten about Ianto. But he wasn't a direct threat at the moment, and he had more pressing matters to deal with. Pity Martha wouldn't see it the same way. "He must still be in the firing range, then. There's not another way out from there, is there? It was cleared of weapons, but I don't want to take any chances." Over Tosh's head, he shot a look at Martha. He didn't know how to imply to her the idea that Ianto was dangerous. But he couldn't reach her and he didn't have time. “If you find Ianto, Martha, we can go and sort things out,” Tosh offered. Adam nodded. "Right. Be careful." He turned to Tosh. "Let's see what we can do." OOC: We can either continue in this thread, notevery, or we can start another thread and put it in with Mainframe specifically. Up to you. |

"He must still be in the firing range, then. There's not another way out from there, is there? It was cleared of weapons, but I don't want to take any chances," Adam replied, shooting her a look over Tosh's head that Martha couldn't interpret. She shook her head. "No, I don't think there's another way out, but I'll check and see if I can find him," she replied. “If you find Ianto, Martha, we can go and sort things out,” Tosh offered. "That's fine with me. I'll let you know if I don't find him in the firing range, so you can be on the lookout for him as well." Adam nodded and went on his way with Toshiko after admonishing her to be careful. "I will. You too," she said as she watched them head towards Mainframe's master console. She turned and moved cautiously towards the closed door to the firing range. OOC - Continued in Trigger Point |

OOC: Want to keep it here just to keep the thread count down? The central access room of the Mainframe was something that even Tosh didn't entirely understand. There was the general access terminal and then the banks of hardware laid out beyond a glass door; blue lights and pulsing cables spread over the floor. She may have been the technician for the team, but even she hardly went into the physical belly of Mainframe; there simply wasn't any need. It was complex enough just dealing with the master controls. Plus, she had a sneaking suspicion that Mainframe, to some degree, fixed itself. The code at the first door worked without a hitch, and Tosh moved over to the main console. There wasn't evidence of any physical tampering that she could see beyond the glass wall--and anyhow, even Owen shouldn't have been able to reach that deep into the system. The master controls, though... Tosh ran her hands almost lovingly over the keys. "Right," she said, almost absently. "I'll just--" Her retinal scan and fingerprint were accepted by the system, but her employee number flashed red on the screen after she entered her password. User access denied. "What?" Insufficient access rights, Mainframe informed her with what felt like coldness. Edited by Toshiko Sato, Oct 16 2009, 12:18 PM.

OOC: That sounds fine to me. "What's going on?" Adam leaned closer, reading the screen over her shoulder. "Try it again," he said, hand gripping down on her shoulder. He had to get in. He was running out of options. |

Adam's grip on her shoulder was slightly too tight, pressure verging on pain, but Tosh didn't move him away yet: he was stressed and she was confused, almost hurt by a rejection by their computer. By her computer. "I don't understand. The only things I can't access on Mainframe are Jack's personal files..." Her fingers moved over the keyboard again and again, trying one avenue after another, but Mainframe didn't budge, and it wouldn't say anything more revealing than telling her that her access rights had been modified--by whom or when it wouldn't say. Little red letters flickered over the screen, seeming almost to grow in size as if Mainframe were repeating itself louder and louder: Denied. Edited by Toshiko Sato, Oct 16 2009, 04:28 PM.

Adam shoved her to one side. "Let me see." He tapped quickly at the keyboard. While the components in this room were largely mechanical, there was enough of a connection to the essence behind Mainframe for him to pry at it, hammering at it more effectively than Tosh's pathetic attempts. |

If Tosh hadn't really thought twice about Adam gripping her shoulder, she couldn't ignore him pushing her: she caught herself on the edge of the terminal, almost tripping over her heels. In the first moment, she didn't even know what to think: of course he was just tense, worked up and afraid, but he'd never touched her roughly before--or at least, not when she hadn't asked for it. She blinked at him, trying to talk, trying to work out what to say. "Adam?" She couldn't help herself noticing that whatever he was doing to Mainframe, it wasn't normal, and Mainframe didn't seem to be liking it. |

Mainframe pushed back at his attempts, angry blues and greens a stalwart defense against everything he tried. "We have to get in," he said, angry. "Everything's hidden in there, it won't be safe otherwise." He turned to look at Tosh, eyes blazing. "You have to get me in there." Jack may have locked her out, but if she kept prying around the corners, he could blast Mainframe's counterdefenses to pieces. |

"You have to get me in there," Adam said, looking at her with an intensity that made Tosh hold back from him for the first time in years. Yes, she couldn't even imagine what Ianto might have done... and she would personally be first in line telling Jack to get rid of him permanently this time. Fear she would have understood, and a certain level of anger, yes--but the aggression in Adam's eyes didn't fit, somehow, with the man she loved. "Of course I'll get us in," she said after a pause, nodding. "Just give me a moment." She stepped up to the controls, looking at them rather than him and trying to make half a joke of it as she said: "you scared me." He still smelled of himself, though, and she could remember kissing down his chest that morning. Adam would never hurt her; already the memory of his push felt somehow silly. It was just that he was worried, that was all. |

Fear crackled through Tosh's determination. She was confused, by him and the situation, but he didn't care. She should have been able to get him in, and he cursed the fact that she was failing now. He tried to remember what she thought was going on. Her simple mind was easy enough to keep track of on its own, but he didn't have time to pay attention to what was what. He let his hand skate up her arm, skimming through her memories to glean what he needed. "Ianto shouldn't have this much access, who knows what kind of damage he's done. Do what you need to to get us in there." He squeezed her arm without thinking. |

Adam watched Mainframe carefully as Tosh worked. Slowly, the thicket of blue separated, coaxed and prodded by Tosh's efforts. Everything was going so slowly, all these physical forms slowing everything down. If this was what he'd have to contend with, there was no way he could bend the computer to his will from here. He'd have to go the more direct route. For a fraction of a second, there was a miniscule dark patch in the fading field of blue. Adam dove for it, concentrating all his energy there, blasting it open, wide enough to slip through. With no warning or fanfare, the power dropped in the Hub, sending the room crashing into darkness as Mainframe buckled under the assault. And Adam was gone. |

For a moment, Tosh stilled - never get out - never be free - before she drew in a shocked breath, flinging a hand out to grasp Adam's sleeve. Which wasn't there. "Adam?" she said sharply. "Adam?" Utter silence and that made the sharp edge of panic rise higher. No lights, no circulation ... the soft tick, tick, and a nearly organic sounding wheeze and, a head of her, Tosh saw a faint blue shimmer. "Mainframe," she breathed. Struggling to come back on-line in the darkness. The faint light was barely enough to show Tosh that there was no one in here with her. It was followed, though, by dull emergency lighting and the console in front of her began to boot back up as well. She ignored it, heading to the door and resting a hand on it as she realized it was under emergency lock - to protect Mainframe, arguably the Hub's most precious possession. No one was supposed to be in here when that happened and the emergency systems wouldn't reactivate the air supply down here. The room was small and Tosh felt a jolt of horrible claustrophobia as she realized there was a chance she'd die down here. Adam had left her here. For a moment, Tosh leaned against the door, heart beating too fast and leaving her head ringing. Then she turned back to the console and activated her comm, trying to raise Adam ... or anyone. Wherever he was, they had to find the enemy - Ianto, Gwen, some unknown intruder - and stop them before everything fell apart. |
