Gwen sat up in her seat, focused as the discussion turned to one of her areas. "Even with our new faces," she said, "it'd still take a bit of work getting in there without raising suspicion - most of those people go back a long way. But -- I reckon I might be able to come up with something." She grinned. "Maybe that party trick was good for something after all." |

"It does look a bit like that sculpture in Chicago," Martha said. "But what does it do?" Jack leaned back, folding his hands behind his head with a pensive look, "Oooh, what it can it do ... more like what can't it do. Cure cancer, regrow limbs, repair damaged nervous tissue, eradicate disease, combat aging. All the fun stuff." "They're early Vinvotchi medical technology ... back before they got a real handle on medical care," Jack grinned reminiscently for a moment before going on. "Everyone wants one and when anyone gets one - no one hardly dares to use it." He glanced at Owen who looked avaricious at the thought of one nearly in their hands. "They've got their downsides, limited number of uses and only one person at a time, so you never know when you're going to run out." Gwen leaned forward, getting enthusiastic as she thought about the possibilities. "Even with our new faces, it'd still take a bit of work getting in there without raising suspicion - most of those people go back a long way. But -- I reckon I might be able to come up with something." She grinned, and she still had that gap between her teeth and Jack pressed his tongue to his own teeth because it still made him want to kiss her. "Maybe that party trick was good for something after all." He nodded briskly. "Yup. It'll be a little tricky but at least they won't recognize us on sight," Jack frowned a bit. He'd been known by the scavenger community for years now. "We'll need to insert our identities and invitations to the auction into their records and that's actually a bit of a trick." He stole a glance at Ianto and Gwen. "But I have ideas ... well, I have lots of ideas but anyway ... we don't have long so we're going to have to get cracking on this. We'll need to build some false identities, suitable ones, get them inserted into their records and get ourselves in there." |

"...we don't have long so we're going to have to get cracking on this. We'll need to build some false identities, suitable ones, get them inserted into their records and get ourselves in there." Ianto nodded at Jack's words. "We've got a shedload of IDs belonging to- well, to deceased missing persons. They're all catalogued by age. Maybe Tosh and I could construct some back histories online for these identities, since the papers are all official and aged the right amount. Business cards, the works. All the things which prove someone is who they tell you they are. " He shrugged. "We've got new bodies. Might as well put on some new names for this investigation. It'd probably be faster than doing it from scratch." Edited by Ianto Jones, Jan 10 2010, 02:53 AM.

"How sure are you that they've actually got one?" Owen asked after his initial excitement passed. "And does it work?" If anyone figured out what one did, they'd hardly put it up for sale. He reached over the table to snag another slice of pizza. |

Martha's eyes widened as Jack described the object in question. She knew how advanced many alien species were in terms of medical and biological technology, but this was practically unbelievable. The only comparable technology she'd ever heard of was the Goa'uld sarcophagi, and they were both very rare and had negative effects on the body over time. She nodded at Owen's questions. "Yeah, who in their right mind would sell something like this if it's genuine and still functioning? Not that I wouldn't love to have access to one in any condition, but either these people have no idea what this is, it's been used up or damaged beyond repair, or it's bait for us and UNIT." |

Jack shook his head, mouth full if pizza, before going on. "They think it's a power supply unit of some kind. At least, that's what they've got on the records. Half the time they don't know what they've got - and most of the time they just get hold of trash anyway." He shrugged at Owen. "No garuntees it's working, though it's putting out an energy signature that suggests it's power conversion system is still working. But -" he held up a finger, "even a small chance at a broken egg is worth it." "And," he waved a hand at himself, "this does give us a chance to get in there ." "We've got a shedload of IDs belonging to- well, to deceased missing persons. They're all catalogued by age. Maybe Tosh and I could construct some back histories online for these identities, since the papers are all official and aged the right amount. Business cards, the works. All the things which prove someone is who they tell you they are. " Jack nodded. "Sounds good. The tricky part, of course, is getting our records into their system and getting a valid invitation. They're clever." "They use paper records." He grimaced. "It's not a secret that us, and UNIT and a half dozen other organizations can play modern electronic records like kid's games. We need to get false identities set up in the public records systems to back up the invitation packages that are put out by the auctioneers." Jack glanced thoughtfully around the table; Owen less freaked out now that he had something to think about, Gwen and Martha with body language that didn't match their bodies, Ianto using work to distract himself from everything else. "We can't all go in as guests," he said, "that's too many new faces at once. Besides ..." Jack narrowed his eyes. "Staff can do things rich patrons can't." Jack leaned back in his chair with a grin. "It's been a long time since I've had a chance to pull a con like this ..." he trailed off, closing his eyes. "Andy, you'll go in as an employee of the hotel. It's in Carmarthen so you'll fit right in." He eyed the others, trying to puzzle out who'd do best where. |

"Still bloody worth it," Owen said. "Just a matter of degrees, and if they know what it's worth." His back stiffened again though as Jack started going over the possibilities of undercover work. As the medical expert, and one of only two of them who'd even seen a brigid's egg, there was no way he was getting out of this. He sat back in his chair, suddenly aware again of how his body fit differently in its frame. A functioning brigid's egg would be worth it. It would still be hell, but worth it. He flexed and unflexed his fingers around the arm of the chair, and didn't say anything about the fact that Jack was planning this entire caper as if there was no way Tosh would be able to fix their little 'problem' any time soon. |

Martha had to admit that this was an excellent opportunity to take advantage of an otherwise difficult situation, and having a brigid's egg would be worth the risks. She had her doubts about them being able to pull it off, though, even with their altered appearance and the best fake identities possible. Between still adjusting to being in different bodies than they were used to and having to convincingly play different roles, it was going to be difficult. Still, they probably would never have a better chance to get into the auction and try for the egg than this. "Okay, I'm in," Martha said with a sigh. "Just don't make me wear a silly uniform, please." |

Jack's eyes went heavy lidded for a moment at the thought, then he shook himself. "I'll do my best but there's a missed opportunity there ...." "Anyway, dress up games in a bit," he tapped his fingers on the table top as he thought. "First off, we need to get some IDs put together and get those of us going as guests into their invitation lists. For 'staff'," Jack made air quotes, "we need to get identities into appropriate businesses." "So," Jack nodded at Ianto, "I'll give you a list of roles, you find me names and histories to match. I'll go as a guest," Jack swept the table again. "Ianto and Owen, I think you'll be with me as ... assistants." He didn't want to leave Owen unsupervised if he went ballistic because someone grabbed his arse or tried to pick him up in a bar. "Thing is," he said thoughtfully, "we need to steal an invitation package from a guest - before the guest replies. The packages are paired up with a master folder at the hotel - managed by the security - but they're sealed until the auction starts. We'll need to steal a package from a guest and insert false information into the matching master folder. Jack leaned back with a grin. "This is going to be fun, kids." ooc: unless there are questions, more brainstorming, we're going to go to a 'montage' skipped time/night off and reconvene the characters when we have false IDs for everyone, the next day |
