Andy put the kettle on in the Hub kitchen. They were apparently close to a breakthrough with the so-called party favor, but until they had it sorted he wasn't planning on going back to his flat any more than he had to. There were places in the Hub to sleep and to eat, and at least here he didn't have to deal with the unsettling way people treated the person he looked like at the moment.

"Could be worse," he muttered and opened the refrigerator to look for some jam. After all, this was Torchwood. It could have been a second head, or green skin, or no skin.

Owen burst into the kitchen, muttering under his breath. "Goddamn Jack and his stupid inability to keep it in his pants for more than five hours." He reached for the high shelf where he kept a spare bottle of gin and cursed as he realized he was now too short to reach it easily. He kicked the cabinets in frustration.

"Do I even need three guesses?" Andy asked as he put the jam down on the counter next to the bread. His mug sat beside it, teabag waiting for the water to boil. "Bits of the Hub I should avoid for the next fifteen minutes to an hour?"

Owen looked over his shoulder -- he hadn't really processed Andy being in the room. "I'm pretty sure they went to Ianto's, actually," he said, debating the ignominy of having to climb a chair in front of Andy in order to get the liquor, or having to have this conversation without alcohol. "I've never seen him light out of there like that for any other reason." Alcohol won out, and he pulled the chair up, pulling down the gin and a glass.

"If he's got the damn thing fixed, some of us would like to just get the whole thing over with." He drained the glass and immediately refilled it.

"Look on the bright side. At least in this body the gin'll hit that much quicker."

Andy wasn't sure that was a bright side as such, owing to the unpredictability of Owen's moods and just how uncomfortable the whole experience had been for him. Wordlessly, Andy rested a hand on the back of the chair to keep it steady while Owen climbed it.

"Point," Owen said. He returned the chair to the table, flipping it around so he could straddle it backwards. "Too bad I can't drink enough forget all this." He looked up at Andy, proffering the bottle. "You want some? I can't believe you're not looking forward to things getting back to normal."

Andy waved off the bottle. "Best not. If Jack and Ianto are out, we probably need at least one of us here and in a fit state to keep an eye on things."

He picked up the kettle when it began to whistle and poured some hot water into his mug. "And it's not like we don't have ways of making you forget if you really want to."

"I don't think Jack was really thinking about who gets to babysit the Hub in all of this -- though if anything Tosh would, since nothing happened to her." Plus, it was Tosh. Weekends and holidays were foreign words to her.

"And it's not like we don't have ways of making you forget if you really want to."

Owen turned away slightly. "You know that stuff doesn't work on me." He took another sip of gin. With a smaller body, it should go to his head faster, but he still had a high tolerance for the stuff. "Aren't you eager to get this all over with?"

OOC: Owen just thinks retcon doesn't work on him. Plus he hates the stuff immensely.

Andy shrugged and set about finishing his toast. "Sure, I suppose. It's just that worse things have happened. No one's pointing a gun to my head, or doing crazy things to my brain, or holding me hostage. I'm not mortally wounded."

Toast accomplished, he picked up his mug and plate and carried it over to the table. "I'm trying to look at it this way: being a man reversibly trapped in a woman's body is kind of like winding up in Greece for the weekend by accident. I didn't exactly budget for it and it's entirely ridiculous, but if Jack says my original plumbing will be back in by the end of the week, I may as well try and take in the scenery."

Owen raised an eyebrow. "The scenery? Just what've you been up to on your nights off?" He hadn't been able to relax at all. He felt like he'd spent an entire week on edge. "Knowing it is fixable does help some, yeah, but I'd rather just have the whole thing be over with." Back in a body he knew how to deal with.

"As an unlicensed physician, my best advice starts and ends with the benzodiazepines," he quipped and gestured with his toast. "Though I can't say I'd recommend it with the gin. Maybe as a gin alternative."

He let the question of what he'd been up to on his off nights pass. If Owen couldn't guess, he wasn't nearly as ingenious as everyone gave him credit for.

Owen snorted and shook his head. "Yeah, I'll stick with just the gin, thanks." He twirled the empty glass in his hand. "Though I've got to admit, I'd be enjoying this a lot more if it wasn't me, too." He noticed Andy's obvious silence as to his second question and gave Andy an obvious once-over.

Maybe the gin was hitting him a little faster than he'd thought.

"At least Jack didn't decide to use it as some sort of team building activity. Still, it's not just you. That has to count for something, right?" He raised his mug as if to toast. "To schadenfreude."

Owen nodded. "Guarantees there's no picture blackmail." He tipped his glass at Andy. "Though I think Jack is the only one actually enjoying himself."

"Depends on how long ago he left with Ianto, I suppose." Andy paused and tilted his head to the side and wondered just how creepy it was to imagine his colleagues having lesbian sex if the individuals in question were, in fact, men. Probably very. "I wonder if Tosh feels left out? I mean, everybody wonders, don't they? She'll have to ask Gwen. Or Martha."

"They've been gone for at least half an hour, so I expect the answer to that is yes," Owen said dryly. And why was it they'd chosen to go to Ianto's place when they were both birds, but when they were blokes they were lucky to make it to Jack's bunk? He'd prefer it the other way around, in the normal score of things.

"I wonder if Tosh feels left out? I mean, everybody wonders, don't they? She'll have to ask Gwen. Or Martha."

"Dunno. I haven't seen her around much, actually -- that's got to be strange on its own, all your coworkers suddenly replaced with twins from an alternate dimension." Tosh probably wouldn't know what to do in a different body. She'd probably have as much trouble adapting as Owen had. Martha and Gwen had both taken to it fairly easily, from what attention he'd paid.

"Considering our track record, I'd be surprised if that doesn't happen eventually. I wonder what my alternate dimension self does for a laugh, anyway." He looked down at himself. "Wouldn't want to try and put a stab vest on like this, I can tell you that much."

Andy leaned back in his chair. "Seems a shame it's just them, though. I mean, that's the other half everyone wonders about, right?"

"Wouldn't want to try and put a stab vest on like this, I can tell you that much."

"We'll let you make the coffee and do all the witness interviews and safety lectures," Owen said flippantly. "Being a doctor's no different either way, so --" he shrugged.

"Seems a shame it's just them, though. I mean, that's the other half everyone wonders about, right?"

"That and making out with your alternate dimension self," Owen nodded. He cracked a grin. "Yeah, if that ever happened, Jack wouldn't even bother to tell us all to go home it'd just be 'clear a path.'"

"Now that's a visual," Andy said with a laugh. "Jack Harkness: no surface is safe."

He gave Owen a curious look. "But seriously, don't tell me you haven't tried things on at least a little bit. Privacy of your own flat and all."

Owen shrugged one shoulder, refilling his glass again, though he didn't drink. "I've hardly had time to sleep. Hardly had enough time to get over the fact that it's the wrong face in the mirror." Even if he could really disconnect from the reality, well -- he wasn't even his own type any more, and how the hell did that work? He downed the shot.
