well, as a few of you know my graphics card is the technological equivalent to dog poo, so i'm getting a new one. I have looked everywhere to learn as much as I can about the cards available and which ones i can use on my computer.

I have an on-board graphics thing, which is probably why it sucks. but anyways, i have an AGP 8x port thing so apparently i can use a good card. i've been looking around and here are the ones i like:

Radeon X1950 XT -~$260

Radeon X1950 pro-~$190

I know that there are only 2 of them but i like these lol
so what do you think, should i get one of these or a different one?

also don't buy a $1000 AU graphics card if your cpu, ram, and everything else is crap.
it will never live up to it performance with the cpu ,ram bottlenecking it

well my computer has some weird 'technology assimilation' thing; some things i add to the computer will start working immediately as soon as they are attached lol, keyboards mouse, speakers, anything and i'll have to assume that a graphics card will do the same.

i hope that exists but in MY experience whenever a device is installed it places a dll or 2 into windows/system32 folder and when you uninstall them the dll's are often not deleted

the dll also make changes to windows core to optimize performance or whatever but when it is uninstalled theses changes are not changed back. the changes can and will slowly eat away at your install and make performance drop like a brick and errors spike (usually takes a year) thats why i prefer a clean install with new hardware but if its just a new card don't bother.

Sok, lol stercum acidit (latin for something... lol)

well this computer should have enough space for a new one, it's a pretty big tower, and it isn't very heavy so it can't have too much in there.

ok, i've come to the conclusion that for now, i don't need a graphics card that supports dx10 and costs $300, i just need a card that will run ANYTHING made with U3D with good fps, and has pixel shaders. i can get a new computer with all of the really good stuff when i go off to college lol.
what
so according to the information about my computer from one of the earlier posts, what is a good card that will 'run ANYTHING made with U3D with good fps, and has pixel shaders'?

it should work with my computer, it's an Nvidia and is fairly cheap. i'll be making to ordr either today or tomorrow, so if i should need to know anything more, now would be the time to tell me.

I still think you should be getting a graphics device with DX 10 support, or a cheaper one without, but if you really don't want that, I won't stop you (because I can't do so anyway  ).

eh, this computer is fairly outdated hardware-wise... i don't even think it will run vista/dx10, at least not as well as it would have to be to be enjoyed... so in a year or so i will probably get a new computer. but for now all i need is a new graphics card.
