I had this idea/thought for awhile: Why dont programs like Maya and 3dsmax use a realtime renderer as a normal renderer? All they had to do was tweak the settings really high until they get 1fps and then its perfect. Could you imagine rendering a scene in 3dsmax that only takes one second and has amazing results??? Imagine not having to wait for the render to finish, but its just.. DONE. And by realtime renderer i mean like... the one they used in 'Gears Of War' or something similar which i believe is the Unreal Engine. What do you guys think? |

Well, with modern video cards and CPUs it doesn't take many seconds to render an advanced single image but I guess this idea would be cool anyway though. |

For home users of 3d applications, rendering bites big time. On a 4ghz Cpu with 2gb Ram and an nvidia card it takes a few minutes to render a HDRI image of small proportions. But maybe we could make a render engine for 3dsmax with the Ultimate 3d dll? lol. How cool... |

Have you used Maya at all? It does support Hardware rendering (a.k.a. rendering from GPU). It's extremely fast, but it lacks the support of many features. |

Actually its not overclocked... i think its actually 3.85 or 3.9ghz. Im pretty sure its the fastest Pentium 4. And yeah about the maya thing, i get it, but i still thing my idea was cool... lol.

You can test shaders in real time in 3ds Max. Cool to watch a in-game movie in 3dsmax. Except, the shaders are in .fx form. |
