In your opinion what was the most believable extraterrestrial in a Hollywood movie? Please don't mention microbes. Scientists keep talking about how if we find life on another planet it will most likely be microbial. Its not that wouldn't be interesting at all, its just that multi cellular life has far more personality. For that reason it is a bit more interesting.

In your opinion what was the most plausible multicellular alien creature you saw in a Hollywood movie? By plausible I mean, could be a real creature, and looks like it could be something that didn't evolve on Earth. In other words it isn't related to life here, or its common ancestor with life on Earth was a microbe. Does this creature obey the laws of chemistry and physics? Also, just as important, does it obey the laws of evolution, and natural selection? Does its method of reproduction make sense?

Please only mention extraterrestrials that could plausibly exist somewhere in the real universe.

Sorry it took me a while guys, I haven't been on this forum much, lately. The aliens that definitely have the most believability problems are the cartoon aliens. Some of them are implausible beyond words!

My favorite is from the movie VIRUS...
It was a alien computer virus that saw the human race to be a disease on the plannet.
It kills the crew of a russian reasearch ship and uses their bodies to build a form for itself.....

luenardi, I saw that movie. It was disturbing, but was it plausible?

sure if you realize that we are some sort of computers to so if someone hacks into our neural network we can do strange things (send electrick pulses to muscles to make em shorter.. )

roelor,

If I found out someone was trying to hack into my neural network, I would definitely want protection.

lol get the future version of Norton anti virus for your brain, end up stopping randomly or doing things really slow for no apparent reason... yup. that's the future.

one thing you have to think about when it comes to the development and evolution of an alien species... things we have here on earth may or may not exist in the same form, if at all, in extraterrestrial locations. for example, wings. wings as they exist on earth most likely would not exist on other planets; all of our wings here are made for our atmosphere, in a thicker atmosphere, large wings wouldn't be necessary, and in thinner atmospheres, wings may not even be possible.

legs on the other hand, are what i like to call 'universal'. legs have evolved on earth hundreds of times, because they are useful fo get around if you don't fly or swim. so logically, limbs (arms, legs...etc) are universal; many things have limbs of some kind, and they have all evolved separately and independently. so a logical conclusion would be that, most likely, if you saw an alien, it would have limbs of some kind. this applies for other 'universal' forms, like eyes of some kind, ears, taste...etc. all have purposes; ears don't work in a vacuum, but they work very well in an atmosphere. eyes can be changed to see in many spectrum's, heat, infrared, not necessarily light.

gamemakerguy1560,

Yes the alien plants and animals will probably will have a few things in comman with life on Earth due to convergent evolution. But I wonder if I creature could exist on another planet that was both part plant and part animal at the same time. I wonder if there are any beings out there like that. A plantimal would definitely be alien.

I don't know how plausible you may consider these aliens, but they seem somewhat possible from my eyes.

If you've ever seen the TV show Andromeda, which was one of Gene Roddenberry's ideas (The guy who made Star Trek) before he died, you've probably seen the strangely technologically advanced, yet extremely savage and barbaric magog. They were weird humanoid creatures that were covered with hair, and they have to eat by killing their own prey, otherwise the digestive process doesn't work right, and if they don't eat, their bodies start to digest themselves. The creepiest part about them is that to reproduce, they have to go and give some of their DNA to another organism, usually by biting them, and then these organisms become hosts. These magog eggs that hatch and grow in the body make the organism extremely ill, and they eventually eat their way out, and if properly fed, they can reach maturity within a few weeks. They also very slightly in appearance and habits because when they hatch and grow, they retain a small portion of the host's DNA. They usually travel in swarms and overtake enemies extremely quickly by killing most, than taking a few after biting them and hold them hostage until they die as the magog hatch and escape from the body. As you've probably already guessed, since they can reach maturity so quickly and can infect as many organisms as they can bite, each one producing multiple magog, they reproduce so quickly they're not just a species, but more like a disease.

the magog seems to be nearly the same thing as the xenomorph from the Alien franchise... coincidence?

about the plant alien,
you have to remember that in nature, there is no absolute definition between plant and animal, some microbes have given scientists trouble when trying to classify them as plants or animals. a photosynthetic animal would work somewhere, as would a plant that could move around of it's own free will. actually, a plant with it's own fre will would be pretty animal like; as far as we know, a plants behavior is completely reaction-based; a vine touches something, it starts to try to grow around it to get a hold, when a plant's roots come in contact with water with alot of nutrients \, those roots will grow much faster to get as much water as possible. even the venus flytrap is reactionary... there are little hairs inside the trap, that cause the trap to close when touched. this is what scientists call rapid movement, which only a few plants have.

an alien could be a mix of any number of features present and not present on earth...

Sorry it took me a while to post a response. I had trouble getting back to this forum. It seemed to be down for a couple of days. Most Hollywood aliens have few things about them that are hard to believe.
