I'm sure you've already seen this.... not: FR-041.debris Mind the file size of 112 kB compared to what it does on your computer. After "unfolding", this beast will be using a half GB of RAM to run. It requires a rather fast machine though. If yours is more than 3 years old, don't bother. Other, less CPU intensive demos are available in mass at scene.org or pouet.net, but the German (like me ) Farbrausch group is somewhat leading, I mean their productions usually get high ratings. But unlike many others, FR-041.debris amazes even people who don't watch demos or intros. It's an amazing, dazzling movie. |

One thing. How do they do that and yet the file is so small?! It was so good that it even lagged in some areas, and it was on my brother's dual core computer that's not even 6 months old! |

Well, it's not a really expensive computer. It's powerful compared to the PC I'm used to using, but that's because it's a 2006 laptop. General rule is desktops are usually more powerful than laptops. It looked awesome, it just lagged ever so slightly in some areas. I don't think it's the graphics card, anyway. It's probably the memory, despite that I think he's got 1-2 gigs of memory. |

What they do, is "procedual graphics" generation. Models and textures, as well as paths etc. are built from templates. If you go to the Farbrausch products page, you will find (an older version of) their development tool "werkkzeug". A help file exists, and a forum as well. Somebody made a First-Person Shooter with werkkzeug. It's a 64kB file that contains maybe 15 minutes of play with music, tons of texures, shader effects, a few different monsters, weapons, OMG. I think you can find it under "kkrieger" |

Did they use procedural texture generation as well? I only know one tool that can do that and that's ProFX.
