I think its time for a community game. Anyone else agree?

I was thinking along the lines of an online game but not a big advanced one, something simple. Maybe a 3D version of this game: http://www.owensworld.com/flashgames/play-662.htm

I could be in charge of modeling the city and texturing and such, maybe with Bami's help since thats what gave me the idea (his renders). I have this done so far:

This is pretty much my vision but im open to ideas because yeah its a community game. :P

online multiplayer would be awesome lol

the tank game would be pretty simple, all there is is:

--maybe a splash screen
--main menu
--create/join game screen
--create game options
--join game/server list
--the game
----the tanks
----the different weapons
----the terrain/environment
----particles/effects
----multiplayer
----AI bots
--post-game report screen
--and maybe a buy weapons screen

that's pretty simple compared to other games.

tanks is supposed to be a game you can play with friends that are at your house and your bored, or when your battling your friend on the school PC's when the teachers not looking.

I rekon it should be turn stlye, unless we could incorperate both? (i.e. turn based AND internet multiplayer) Or would that be too dificult?

We could have an internet mutilplayer version and a turn based version if a version with both got too difficult.

See i agree with the Turn based. i think Dead1yM00 is on the same wave path here, tanks is a game we play at school with 2 or 3 friends around a pc laughing and such. Its abit different in this situation i know but still.

Im going to have to push for TurnStyle UNLESS someone with some decent multiplayer/online GML knowledge volunteers.

Here are the positions we need anyway:
City Modeler - Zedman.

General Programmer -
Effects Programmer -
Sound/Music -

i can't do models or sound (i dont have the software)

i haven't used U3D before (i have only read the help file), however, i know trig.
So i could HELP with programing...

I say a top down fps game. People can be in charge of artillery and use vectors to call the shots, fly helicopters and airplanes, drive tanks and APCs, or use the traditional sniper rifle to attack their foes. Additionally, a commander will utilize a top-down view to oversee the battle. And, to fulfill your tank based desires, there could be an "Artillery" mode where all players can only use artillery, and take turns shooting each other (just like real-life.)

That's a nice idea by the way, one commander to oversee orders like strategy and the other people fight the battle in first person. :huh: Perhaps?

Glad we agree. :D 3rd person for vehicles sounds good too, although 3rd person for infantry would require precise animations. But this way the project should take longer than 1 week and would require more than 1 person to create it (and we could all make a little bit of money from it too :whistle:)

Yeah i dont know about infantry and (?)commanderisism(?). We should keep it simple, top down like the screenshots, were already going with online/lan play which will be abit difficult we dont need to worry about character animations and getting orders to people etc.

If you play the tank game you see that its not just about aligning your shot, youve got air raids you can call for, explosive balls, shields, upgrades. Its not that simple of a game.

And Silverfire, your one of the people i would trust to program this game, just forgot you off the list, sorry. Haha. When will you be able to help with the online coding?

(Someone to model Tanks, general items, rockets, etc).

(Someone with a good/advanced knowledge on GML and U3D to work on the game. Trajectory, HUD, Tank movement, etc.)-

(Someone to program the online code and communications.)

Effects Programmer - ?
(Someone to create Shaders, program explosions, particle effects, etc.)

Sound/Music - ?
(Someone to create background music and effects such as explosions, tank moving sounds, etc.)
