True
i often curse at the fact that there is a bottle neck between gm and u3d and that much more can be done on my hardware than gm
+ u3d allows...
no offence ment christoff

fear
doom3
hl2
quake 4
all can run on DX8.1 and even so there are so many other nice things that can be done on DX 10

when i programmed in dos using QBASIC 4.5 we only had 640KB for our program it was not how we were limited but how we got past our limits that was impressive...
and that stands till today.. it's not how much a effect pulls but how you can fake it!

for only then you will be a true jedi!

i hope this inspire's many!

To be completely honest, those graphics are worse than crysis. The only real "amazing" thing about that is the destructible foliage, but there are always ways to do something of that sort. As in Havok, you can program fracture lines, so you can have breakable walls and glass for instance.

Also, I'm sure if you are a good enough programmer, you can write some spectacular shaders in Ultimate 3D. Really, as long as you have shaders, you can write some stuff that can match that. What you have there looked like normal mapping and screen space "god rays". Crysis is the real beauty, as nothing really has surpassed it yet. So think about that. And the only thing holding back Ultimate 3D is gamemaker, the engine itself is quite powerful.

One last note, if you really want those style of graphics, learn C++ ;) It'll help you out greatly, especially if you plan on going into the game and simulation industry. And anyone can do it. Its just harder the more you progress with GameMaker.

One think you can do in CryTek 2 and you can't in Ultimate 3d:
Geometry shaders :D.

But then again, I'd rather have a game that runs on my semi-new pc then a game that only runs on NASA or weather-predict superclusters.

Well yes, there are geometry shaders, but most shaders in Crysis do not use them. In fact, there are very few uses of Geometry Shaders. The only real geometry shader I found when looking through many of the crysis shaders was for shadow rendering, but that is all. Because if you think about it for a second, you can tell that in most cases, a geometry shader is simply not required. The only real instance in which a geometry shader would be required is dynamic LOD that adds triangles in real time ( which Crysis does not do via shaders ), or for realtime volumetric water/fire/particle rendering, which crysis does not use. In fact, right about now, no one really has that great of ideas for geometry shaders, at least, none that have been proven and or implemented into anything. The only game that makes use of volumetric rendering via geometry shaders is Hellgate London ( at least that I know of ). And even when doing that, my 8800gts seemingly cries when running that, so I wouldn't expect heavy use of geometry shaders for quite some time. And anyways, you can emulate geometry shaders with almost any other shader / cpu task mixed together. Take particles for example, the direct X 10 sdk provides an example for particle systems using geometry shaders, but as far as I could tell, it offered nearly no speed gain for the program. And with the CPUs out right now, at least for a while, you could probably simulate such things easier on a CPU.

Yeah they added those to 8 series GFX cards, it's a awesome feature..

The only thing I don't like about good graphics is the processing power need for them.

Think of voxels, but then more awesome and less suck.
