First of all:
Make a script called PointDistance3d with this code in it:

Use CheckRayIntersection() and AttemptMoveToPosition() (I could be slightly wrong in the names.) Also, go to the U3D website and look at the Collision Example. That will give you what you need (except for the PointDistance3d(). I made that one).

Edit: Oh, for character models or small objects like pickups, you can use the PointDistance3d() script I told you to make.
