I saw quite a few interesting post in another topic (which were very much offtopic for that topic, btw ;) ) about one's modelling experience, so I decided to open up a separate topic for this discussion as I am interested myself to hear about your modelling skills.

What is your prefered modelling software?
Why do you use it?
What software have you tried?
How long have you been modelling?
Insert question here..?

I've been modelling for about 4-5 years. I started modelling in 3d Studio MAX 5 and learned the program and became accustomed to it's interface and functions very fast. Ever since my modelling skills have grown stronger for every model I make. I've also tried Anim8or and Blender and didn't like neither because both had very confusing and difficult interfaces.

EDIT: You may also show off your creations in this topic if you like.

Hey,, great idea, i like i like...
hnmm, well,,, heres goes,,,
As a hobby I've started in Lightwave 3d in early 1998, moved onto 3D studio in Dos shortly after, than Maya came
into the picture,
but ultimately i stuck with max, even though Maya has some very rich features,

One of the reasons i started 3d was because at the time i was interested in doing video game graphics,
or pre rendered scenes for games.
As time went on i never got into the game development stuff, like programming or level design, mostly because the

tech for what i had in mind wasn't available.
so i moved into the 3D rendering scene, where i stayed for years, drifting away from the game design ideas.
Im very picky, and go for perfection of the ideas i have in mind, which usually take longer to produce than most

people would like.

I haven't done any of my usual renders now for about 2 years, since ive come back into trying to work on a game,

(sonic)
which still the tech isn't yet in the pre render photorealisticness i require. but its pretty close.
First i was working in C4 game engine with a friend, than he had other things to do,
so than i teamed up with someone else i was acquainted with 'Xeniczone',
he was working on a project Ive always wanted to work on, a remake of the canceled sonic game , Sonic Xtreme.
after almost 2 years and a number of builds of diffrent aspects of the sonic engine, we kind of parted ways..
so now here i am in the ult 3d comunity that ive grown fond of.

i know i left alot of details out,, but there's just to many to cover lol
i also have some experience in a number of other programs i use from time to time along side of 3D studio.
which include, Maya, Lightwave, Modo, , motion builder, Mudbox, Photoshop, a bit of Autocad and Softimage XSI.
and tryed out Cinima 4D, but really didn't like it so much.
also im not up to date on the latest builds of some of the above listed programs.
since my preferred 3D software is 3ds Max 2009, and animation software is Motionbuilder.

an old render,,,, perhaps 2003ish,, cant remember. one of my favorits.
i used splines for the hair in this one,

this is the same model in her early stages, used the hair FX plugin here,, but i didn't much like teh resalts.

Edit: if anyone needs any advise, i may be able to help out.

ive been modeleing for about 2 years using milkshape for its simplicity.
ive tried 3ds max but couldnt realy get into it because all the functions i needed i couldnt find.ive also tried blender truespace and anim8or but couldnt get them to work because of there confusing gui.but most likle what has attributed to my severe lack of ability is inneptetude in any form of modeling ^_^

I prefer Blender (heck yeah!), because I'm broke, it's powerful, and Anim8or is the computer modeling equivalent of GM (simple, yet limited). I've tried Anim8or, but as I said, it's simple, but extremely limited (especially in the UV mapping area). I've also tried the trial of Milkshape 3d, and I tried Misfit Model 3d (think of Milkshape with support for only these formats, but ultimately, Blender has what I need.
I've been modeling for less than a year. I started shortly after I got GM Pro, and I wanted to make some models to use in GM-D3D (ugh...), but I didn't really take off with modeling until I started using U3D. Basically, I've been truly modeling since March.
(Oh yeah. Seeing all these people with 3 and 4+ years of experience makes me feel wimpy and inexperienced...)

I've been modeling since 5th grade using 3dsMax 3, but I haven't gotten any good since, well, a year ago. That's about the time my tennis took off as well.

I got 3dsMax after Milkshape started to crash my PC, and I've been using it ever since, though mostly modding my games until I found Game Maker. (As in Half Life 1 -> Warcraft 3 -> Game Maker).

So really, I've only got maybe a year and a half of real experience, but I like saying six years.

Right now, I'm not really modeling anything I like, but hopefully that will change soon.

@Andy I like those pics. Reminds me of something I'd like to make in the future.

Glad you like thems there pics,
i havn't modled anything like that lately since i'v been working on the sonic game,
97% of my works are all stored on DVD and blueray disk, inside of the closet.
i even have a few unfinished models i'd like to get back to finishing myself,
but Ult 3d and C4 game enging takes up most of my free time when im not working,
lately i feel i havnt had to much time to even work on the sonic models,

anyways hope to see some of the models you produce when you get some time,
same goes for everyone else out there,
