I failed...
(you can do a mouse on screen position though.
Then if you use math to calculate the rotation and make camera target under the feet of the guy you can do that fairly simple withouth raytracing!)

I made an rts version of click movement. You could work with that.
I'm too lazy to go find the code and post it here so just check the example.
Or wait for mystery.
