well I was wondering, if I download fonts from the net, install them to my windows/fonts directory, and load them up in u3d, and try to play the game on another computer, would I have to install the fonts on the other computer, if so how could I do that. |

Obviously you would have to have the actual font on the other computer as well. You could include the font in your game data and then you could probably have Game Maker check if the font file exists in the Windows/font folder on the player's computer, if not then it will copy the font file from your game folder. Maybe it's too far fetched and complicated. |

As far as I know, there are some file handling functions in game maker that can check if files exists or not and some file copying function, so yes. |

No, actually, I had a GM program that saved a font to a sheet. That's how I got my fonts, because the only other way I found would involve getting into the registry, and I don't like doing that secretly. There's a whole topic on the GMC about this. To save a font to a sheet, either draw it onto a desired surface size, or just draw it and take a screen shot. Edit: And I forgot about drawing them from the sheet. It's a simple loop, and I keep a C++ book with a sticky note on a page with an ASCII chart handy. Basically, you want to reset a horizontal increment every time you hit a max. You do a repeat(ord(character))) and increment there to get your coordinates. Oh, don't forget to do that for each letter. That's why I try to limit the use of letters.
