Hi guys... I think i've finally reached a stage in my game when i should add some realistic explosions and booms and fire and such, my main concern is explosions like for instance a large building exploding down to pieces and loads of fire. Please anyone tip me on how i can make the best looking explosion; -particles? => Am not sure its the best looking... -A pre made effect? => Which one and where? Thank you (^^,) |

There are three steps to get a sexy explosion: 1. Particles 2. Light 3. Shaking 1. I do with particles. 2. In Stickman, I cheat by using a zoom blur, but some games use an actual additive mesh to get a volume light effect. 3. I also cheating in Stickman with a zoom blur. Really, it's a simple sin(current_time) to get a shake function. Mostly trial and error. |

In a space game I worked on for a little while (never announced it, never finished it), I used three separate parts for my explosions, which looked pretty good in the end. 1. A flame particle system. 2. A debris particle system. 3. Two white rings around the explosion, at random angles. Obviously those wouldn't happen in reality, but it really adds to the drama of the effect. |
