Firstly make sure you have quite a bit of experience using GML

Please make sure you download the latest U3D DLL and Manual.
U3D SDK here!
READ THE MANUAL!
Online manual

Common questions.

Q: What versions of GM support U3D?
A: It should work just fine on 5.3, 6.0, 6.1 ,7.0 ,8.0 and i'm pretty sure 8.1 and mabey even 9 will work just fine.
5.3 and 6.1 is now Freeware!
Download GM6.1
Source?

Q: What model formats are supported by U3D?
A: Here is the answer.
.U3D "Has it's own file format" "skeletal animation with skinning" There is a plugin for blender!
.Ms3d "Milk shape" "skeletal animation with skinning"
.3DS "3d Max" "skeletal animation without skinning"
.X "3d Max using panda exporter" "skeletal animation with skinning"
.MD2 "Missfit modeler" "freeware" "frame based, no extra materials" uses "texture" var "not recommended"
.AN8 "Anim8or" "freeware, but very low tech and dated" "supports skinned animations."

Q:how do i change or apply a texture on a model?
A:Apply Texture's
This does not apply to built in model functions

Q:i'm having problems with Lighting or Shadows?
A:Shadow problems.
There are many problems that can occur, be persistent.

Common problems.

1. Always make sure the .DLL is in the same folder as your GMK

2. Make sure when you load models, textures or files that you use the correct path.

Common problems.

Texture aliasing.

Understandin shader and render target texture co-ordinates.

Lights passing mesh...

well if you set your light at that range then it will pass.
Filtering light to collide on walls is very intensive and power hungry.
instead use rooms to separate mesh's or lower the range.
If the effect requires a higher range then you may be better off with baking the lighting..
