Seems like every time I start doing something ground breaking in blender my graphics card crashes and blenders like eff this ditch everything! 1)my graphics card is brand new, 2)I didn't save 3)makes me want to stomp on my gpu

edit just realized I had sculptris and blender open at the same time with the same model, but it wasn't even over 7k tris...My gpu can handle itself but for some reason when I do stuff like this it freaks out on me. Makes me wish I had an ASUS MARS II/2DIS/3GD5 GeForce GTX 580 x2 :D haha yeah right

He left when I said that I would not fix a particular performance issue in Ultimate 3D 2.1.

Oh, that's a shame.

I thought you made it quite clear back in 2008 that U3D for GM was no longer a priority, and only a few maintenance releases would be created. Didn't you say most of the performance issues were largely the result of making U3D simple to interface with GM? To my knowledge (I don't know for sure, I haven't used GM since about 2009, I think), Game Maker 8.1 and Game Maker Studio are much faster, but the issue of being an interpreted scripting language attempting to provide access to certain low-level functions still exists. I'm sure there are little tweaks that could be made to U3D 2.1 to enhance performance, but I seriously doubt it would be worth the effort on your part, particularly because, once again, you've stated all future versions of U3D (which might never be publicly released anyway) would not support Game Maker.

Anyway, I got my driver's license yesterday. After having my driving permit for a month shy of two years (it's only required for 6 months by most states in the US, including mine), it's about time.

I also made some interesting discoveries when porting my math library from the ill-suited Java version to C++. All of my math functions are faster (although less accurate) than the default STL implementation in the debug configuration, but under the default release configuration, they're all slower. I read something that implied that most STL math functions these days are handled by the hardware, and not software, but I don't know how true this is. It does make me wonder, though, if STL uses a hardware implementation in the release configuration, but a software implementation in a debug configuration. If not, and it's all software, I suppose I should probably learn some optimization tricks (and more assembly) to tweak it.

today i learned that having 3 1024x1024 textures applied to a model requires Direct3D 8.1 hardware acceleration, which my stupid PC can't support :C

on the plus side, 256x256 looks almost as nice without losing critical details.

Upgrade time? You can even find DirectX 10 cards and low-end last-gen DirectX 11 cards pretty cheap (as in $50 or less) these days. I would do some hunting on Newegg or someplace like it.

Looks like The Eye and The Ear are prepared for the Olympics. :ph43r:
I wonder why the Brittish army has this need to show off. This all looks like they're not prepared for just in case, this makes it look like they have some sort of (unpublished) intelligence for some realy big terrorist attack being planed for the games. Not excatly comforting. :ermm:
