It's like saying once you use gas from one gas station you can't use any gas from another. Or once you use one internet provider on your router, you can't have another. I say, hack your life. There aren't really any electronics out there that can't be hacked, so the more things that are created...The more hacks there will be, hackers love a challenge(and beating the system) Why don't they just create internet police while they're at it.

On the subject of unlocking.
A unlocked phone will get more fixes and updates.
There for it is in the interest of mobile companies to also endorse this idea.

It's all about profit... <_<
no, because an unlocked phone will also allow other carrier sim cards, My other phone was locked with a prepaid account (40E discount), I didn't mind untill I started getting debt phonecalls that where for the previous owner of that cell phone number. Then I unlocked the sucker and ordered a one euro simcard online.

So they want to make it illegal to do so, because of profit. Its almost like a lumber shop selling saws, but forbidding you to use it on other wood than their own.
True.
In the end control I guess.

For your perception no.

lol, I imagine the next scene:
"My name is Brenn, I am a British Petrol loyalist,
one day I did not tank at the station in my hometown because I was late for work, at work everything went well.
The company I work for is deep inside Shell territory, but the pay is good and the employees are all British Petrolists,
We also don't have to deal with those damn Shell folk since I work at the British Petrol department.

But then on my way home I pretty much ran out of fuel, so I had to make a stop to tank..
But being in shell territory there where no British Petrol fuel stations..
After my car's fuel meter hit zero I decided to stop at a shell station, because I still was a long way from home.

It was the worst mistake of my life..

For inspiration towards books/movies/games lets just look at the headlines and create non-fiction stories based on things that seem incredibly fiction.

get the basic shape of your model while on the go then come home and import it into your editor *cough* blender *cough* to further refine it. For me this can reduce production time because I feel like I'm thinking up more designs while I'm at work, now I can get the basic shape of it then import it into sculptris for more refining and then blender for retopology and normal mapping :D

It does have some minor bugs but that just means don't try to create a whole project with this, just get the ideas created and refine them later.

edit: not a fan of double posting, why is it that I can use blender flawlessly except if I try and record a tutorial for youtube...I'm blaming blender right now, maybe the added strain on the cpu causes blender to not function properly...Yeah, that's it... Posted Image

So...
I made a rendering in Blender to go with the poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley for my English class.

Nice render, is there more to the sand than displacement? what were your techniques?

The sand is a grid. I just turned on proportional editing with a smooth falloff and moved certain vertices along the z-axis. After that, I applied two textures: one is just a procedural cloud noise texture to add some color variation, and the other is actually a procedural woodgrain I used for the displacement.

I modeled everything else (I used some tutorials for help on the feet and hands) and then applied another procedural cloud noise texture for color and used a Voronoi cloud noise texture for the bump mapping. Displacement would have been better, but the topology on all of the inorganic objects is really bad, so displacement looks very uneven.

After that, I just fiddled with lighting and atmospheric settings.

It's pretty simple actually, but it was enough to impress my English class, especially the technologically illiterate ones.

Sorry for the double post, but what do you guys make of the PS4 announcement? I personally think it could be pretty cool if Sony pulls it off right. I'm pretty sure Shigeru Miyamoto was crying in a corner somewhere as the rest of Nintendo crapped in their collective trousers when the announcement was made.

Well, first of all I'm glad about the fact, that the next console generation is finally coming and that Sony went for high-end hardware again. It is about time. It has been bugging me for years, that most games are cross-platform titles and thus require assets and fallbacks for six year old hardware. This has always had a negative effect on the graphics for PC as well and it meant, that things requiring powerful hardware could never be relevant to the gameplay in any way.

Apparently they have ported the UDK Elemental demo to PS4 and that demo has fully dynamic, approximate global illumination. I would love to see that in some games. It is a subtle effect, but contributes incredibly much to the realism of a scene. Being a computer graphics enthusiast I am generally looking forward to the new technologies, which will find wide usage due to this hardware.

I am also glad, that they chose x86 and said goodbye to SPUs. Both should make cross-platform development for the PS4 a lot easier. I wonder whether their API will be some sort of OpenGL on steroids or whether they crafted something themselves.

Another thing I liked about their announcement is, that they said they really care about indie games. I won't believe that until I see it, but it would certainly be cool to run homebrew software on the PS4 and to self-publish it via PSN. If this would be the case and if the APIs are convenient enough I could actually write a PS4 backend for U3D.

Other than that the announcement was not that great. The more personalized storefront, the video streaming features and the social networking stuff are good steps to take for sure, but personally I do not care much about them. Having Gaikai technology in there might actually get cloud gaming to be widely used, but I am not a big fan of that. Besides I wonder why you would want to use cloud gaming, if you have a PS4 right in front of you.

I guess the biggest disappointment about the presentation was the controller, which is not innovative at all. I wonder whether they will piss off Nintendo, by using the Vita as tablet controller :D . Microsoft already has such an offering by means of Xbox SmartGlass so the Wii U would end up not being unique at all.

Looking forward to the Xbox 720 representation, which is rumored to be in April.

I recon the PS4 will be the second nail in the coffin for Sony's place in the gaming market, after the Vita fiasco. It will cost too much just like the PS3 and once again they will loose sales to Nintendo. Personally I find the WiiU much more appealing.

You seem to be the only one thinking so. If I recall it correctly all other consoles (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) each sold more units than the Wii U in the time since the release of the Wii U.

Don't forget about the 3DS. It had outsold the Vita by 333,000 units against 13,000 by the end of December in Japan.

But only after having its price reduced by one third.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to act as a Sony fanboy or anything. All I'm saying is, that things have not been going that well for Nintendo recently.

But I also agree, that the PS Vita is not a particularly interesting product. It is not bad, but its market is being eaten up by smartphones.
