I feel like they'll be poorly abstracted and slow, just like everything else involving GM-D3D.

So... Microsoft decided to remove the "always on" requirement for the Xbox One and return to a traditional used game policy. Can't say I'm surprised.

I think they should just grow a pair and stick to their original policy. What stops them from changing the rest of the policies in the future, say, the privacy ones?
Still many are moaning about their disappointment and not yet happy. Can't satisfy everyone, it's simply business.

I guess they'll just try to crunch physical distribution with their convenient digital distribution, where things are still under control in terms of sharing and DRM.

Anyway, while Microsoft is in a spending mood how about Windows 8 apps, which do not come from the Windows 8 app store?

What I mean is that they went out really strong on the original policy with DRM this and that and that you are required to be online 24/7, and now one of the biggest corporations in the world are rolling over because of some whiny kids that would most likely buy the thing anyway no matter what the DRM policies were. It just makes them look really weak.

You have to remember that half the people buying the Xbox One are those "whiny kids" (or their parents). Microsoft is a corporation, not a political movement. Corporations follow the money, and if half of their user base is dropping out because of a poorly advertised DRM policy, there are two options: a) tell the PR department to work some magic up and help people realize the advantages behind the policy, or b) reverse the policy and just stick with what works.

Microsoft realizes trying to fix the PR nightmare they've established is more work than it's worth, so they'll just drop the policy until they can figure out how to introduce it better. There were several advantages to the original intended policy, but there are still several advantages to using the "old" and "outdated" policy of not requiring a 24/7 policy, not the least of which is that there are still parts of the world where people don't have a steady, reliable, or fast internet connection. There are several mountainous areas in the United States that still can't get much more than dial-up or highly latent (and slow) satellite internet.* And what about soldiers stationed in remote areas of the world? A lot of them have game consoles, and it isn't always possible for them to have a constant internet connection. Another advantage is that renting physical game disks and buying used copies can actually work without requiring an internet connection or a strange, convoluted system.

*Before anyone says anything about the United States being "behind the times" or "out of touch," remember that the United States alone is almost as large as the entire continent of Europe (assuming Europe and Asia are considered two different continents), and it has about half the population density. You try connecting everyone.

It took me a while to finally see the picture (my filter doesn't like Tumblr), but I would like to mention that the Wii U isn't doing too hot either. Nintendo didn't have the massive PR fail that Microsoft did, but they kind of took a backseat this year at E3. No press conference, no good titles due until next year... Not to mention the console is selling like a roasted crap on a stick.
