First of all, you need a internet connection to be able to play Deus Ex:HR at all. Second, you need a legal copy to be able to activate the game via Steam. Thirdly, you need to connect to Steam in order to launch the game.

Well with DeusEx you have the game integrated with Steam eventhough you bought the physical disc version. All updates are downloaded through Steam.

I think you're completely missing that Half Life 2 was the first game integrated with Steam.

You don't need internet for it. Just call Valve and if you're chill enough, they'll probably tell you to get a pirated copy. I mean, holy fuck they release the source code for half their games.

Yea, I forgot that it's the same company.
I don't think they will tell you to get an illegal copy of another company's game.

All that crap is cake to get around.

Steam has the options for offline play, so the pirates just mod some Steam files that tell it that its always offline, and there is no need to update. Then they pack it with the game and use a .bat to lanch the game through their version of Steam.

someone is whining...oh wait, is that complaining

They also have API's semi-public for those (by developer request), so it's really to replace those functions with functions that say you're offline. It's also supposedly pretty easy to replace them with functions that instead connect to pirate Russian servers.

I do. However, I've bought the game, so I'd like to play the game whenever I want.
