Looking good so far. Though it is too bad that it does not apply some sort of surface reconstruction to fill the gaps between the points. Having this coupled with moving least squares or something like this would be interesting.
I can already do that, though the settings are not tweaked.

Moving least squares? I am afraid I don't understand.

I am going to write a ray tracer for this and see how it goes...

Moving least squares is a technique to construct smooth surfaces from arbitrary point clouds. The Wikipedia article has quite good external links on it. It is probably not quite fast enough for real-time applications, but it would be worth a try.

Completely random: I don't understand how people can/could praise the graphics of the N64 and say it was great. Sure, they are impressive for a cartridge based system, but even at the time of its release I thought the graphics were poor compared to the Playstation and Sega Saturn. They had 64MB of space on the cartridge, so I think they could have squeezed a bit more texture detail into it. I love Nintendo, but I've never really liked this particular console. The only game I liked was Zelda: OoT, but the graphics were very blocky, but I guess that's part of its charm. Today though, 16 years later, I love old-school 3D, but I still wonder how the N64 could manage to compete with the other consoles at the time.
Nope.. i still have no idea why ps2 junkies thought they had the best of the best.
Sure the ps2 has pretty much stood the test of time and still has titles released for it to this very day.
But FFS the hardware is so dated looking back at the years of OS's and hardware i have used.

my answer for this is:-
0. Nintendo fan boys.
1. N64 exclusives
2. Golden eye 007
3. Mario & Luigi
4. Weird controller
5. Sometimes impressive feats were preformed with the hardware, including voice recognition and other stupid crap.

3D games on pc where still maturing and mostly relied on the CPU.
But we still got to play the best of the best.

Doom
Quake
Heretic
Hexen
Rise of the triad
Duke nukem 3D
"shaped Fps games to come"

Warcraft2
Red Alert
Z
"strategy bloom"

Diablo
Elder Scrolls 2
"finally a non jap rpg for the rest of us."

DirectX was just starting to show some brawn when Voodoo graphics cards showed up with some serious power.
A mere 4MB of video ram
I remember pairing 2 voodoo cards together for Turok Dinosaur Hunter and SLI was born way ahead of it's time.

Voodoo pretty much started the whole pc graphics race.

And now i have a AMD Radeon 6970 2GB. "it's a thing of beauty"

Depends upon what you celebrate. I guess the release of U3D 1.0 beta could be considered a birth date for Ultimate 3D. Though I don't know the exact date of that, because as far as I know the topic is no longer on the GMC. The release has been in 2004, so it would be a 7th anniversary :) .

This is off topic, but I didn't think it was worth creating a new thread for this.

I am not active anymore, and this will probably be the last post I'll ever make on this community. I'm useless to this community and this community would be better of without me. This account is taking up server space that could better be used for something else, so, Dr. Best, Could you please delete this account and the useless threads I created on this forum? This way the server space used by those threads will be available for something else.

I'll sign out now so you can easily delete my account.

Funny :D . These 10 kB that I don't pay for are most certainly worth being kept. Your posts are not that bad after all ;) .

Besides I don't like deleting old posts. It destroys the context of other posts.

Anyway, if you want to pass out, have a good time somewhere else.

A 45-year-old widow living by herself in Maine with a severe case of depression laid her chin on the end of a shotgun one day and pulled the trigger, removing her tongue, nose and part of her brain. After somehow managing to not die from this, her doctors remodeled her face and her depression completely vanished.

Furthermore, her doctor went on record to say, "Today, the patient is practically as good as new physically. Mentally, she is much better." That's right--the woman shot herself in the face with a shotgun and a fucking medical professional said it was an improvement.

Oh I thought it was on a paid server... Fail on my side.

But still, there were some things that I want to make clear: I have nothing against any member(s) of this community, nor the Ultimate 3D engine. I left because I started to dislike GM for its speed, so I can't use U3D anymore. This is not the only reason, most programmers in a 'real' programming langue here use C++, while I use java and assembly, so this isn't the best place for normal programming help becouse almost noone here programs in those langues (esspecially assembly) (however Dr.Best was really helpful with explaining fixed-point to me even if he didn't knew the langue).

If i ever sounded offensive it was certainly not meant to.

And this is my very last post. I deleted the threads of my projects becouse they were already outdated and won't be updated. Now you are rid of me, I promise.

If you program in assembly, your are more of a "real" programmer then most. Have you tried PyU3D? Its a great step into larger things.
