It was all much easyer when the world was still flat like a pan cake.
Fun fact: I've been trying to pancake a sphere all day. Not quite working yet :think: .
Always the strangest yet most useful yet extremely mind warping (pun) problems for you

I'm just trying to compress some data by factor 10000 without too much loss.

Pancakes seem to be a promising approach.

Have you tried:
Code:

string make_pancake(){
sphere* pancake = new sphere;
pancake->setScale(1,0,1);
if (pancake->getScale()!=3dcrd(1,0,1)){
pancake->destroy();
return "Q.Q"; //basically ragequit
}}

oh, by a factor 100000..
Nvm then, (don't mind the extra zeros)

My compiler would complain about that code. There is no return statement if the if statement is false. Besides, "3dcrd" is an invalid type name in any compiler, to my knowledge. :P

Try this instead:
Code:

char* make_pancake()
{
sphere* pancake=new sphere;
pancake->setScale(1,0,1);
if(pancake->getScale()!=crd3d(1,0,1))
{
pancake->destroy();
return "Q.Q"; //RAGEQUIT!!!!!!
}
return ":D";
}
Why char* instead of std::string? Because I don't like using strings if I don't have to. It seems like a waste of energy if I don't need any special properties of strings. I usually end up converting them into char* with std::c_str() anyway... :unsure:

Nah, I don't want to make a given sphere flat like a pancake. I want to cover a given sphere with lots of pancakes without missing any part. And if everything goes well, the algorithm does not only work on spheres, but also on 100000-dimensional reflectance data.

@ Gandalf20000
Use std::string. It can even be more efficient than char* due to implementations based on reference counting and it really makes lots of things easier. Besides, if you do not use them now, you will decide to use them later and then you will have to update all your old code, which is an unpleasant task. This was one of the first things I did to get from U3D 2.1 source to U3D 3.0 source.

P.S.: Jay, official Cycles test builds are out. Pathtracing FTW.

Been spending half the weekend trying to get Outlook to render my email newsletters properly with background images in tables. Had to use a hack that forces Outlook to render the background images. It sucks that Microsoft doesn't follow the standard of the rest of the email clients out there.

I'm bored.. want to develop something simple...
Anyone need help with anything?

Also. Deus EX 3 is totally a re-work of SS2.
Considering the developers, the hidden "bloat fish" decal from commander keen and the whole gameplay,
Inventory interface and list of other things from the THIEF team, Deus EX 1 lore, "SS2 & Thief both powered by DARK engine"

And the pre nano tech AGE...
All together this game is just.... so... amazing.

Playing the game using only stealth "no cloaking ability" i have managed to finish every area without being spot once or having to use take-downs or harm a single living thing other than "every network and security device in the game".
And the abuse to adam jensen's knees as i worked him thru every level crouching 99% of the time.

That gets you the 'Ghost' achievement and yes it's how they planned the timing of every single move.
I felt evil for playing that way... it was so DARK to be able to sneak past the entire universe on the hardest difficulty.
Tactical Assassination At It's Best.

YES awesome.. i have access to 500GB cloud storage online.
My server works!
And it's uncrackable.
The engine is so simple that nothing can really disrupt it.

All you can do is disconnect my service provider from me.
Good latencies so far.

I'm just worried... you know code.. someone might find a kernel vulnerability.
